how to take off the valve cover off my sr.. and a smal lil problem

okay i wanna take off the walve cover/head to see what kinda cams my car has and to see what's broken cause just recently my car was leaking oil from the line to the turbo so i wasn't using my car, i decided to use my car yesterday without boosting, since i knew it had leaked a lot of oil but i had to pass up a bike to get off the freeway and ever since then my car CLACKS everytime i rev it/ give it gas and its comming from the head ... i already fixed the lines that were leaking and put oil in but now i wanna see what it might be. my dad said it might be a lifter or a rockerarm stopper what u do u guys think? and how to take off the valve cover?

i took off all the studs/bolts except one cause its just spins but doesnt come off but anyways the cover doesnt wanna come off. is there a specific tool or way? THANX and any help would be appreciated .........

Get and use the FSM from Zeroyon.com, was looking at removing the head today in FSM and it thoroughly details the process.

jsut remove all the bolts around the valve cover, remove the few hoses you see attatched to the valve cover, remove coil packs, and jsut take it off, its pretty eeasy, jsut take off what you see is attatched or holdign it down, there are no special tools for this

Just don't go and gorrila torque them valve cover bolts when you're putting it back together, otherwise you'll be snapping them.

You break the seal? There is a light coat of RTV to hold the gasket on.

You have to get all the nuts off before you the take the valve cover. Get that last nut off and you can get the valve cover off.

BTW, the head is not the valve cover. The valve cover is bolted to the head and the head is bolted to the block.

Add pulling pressure to that nut, just a little, so it grabs on the next thread. Remember which bolt that nut went on. Clean the threads on both nut and bolt with tap and die, and a washer when you put it back on. Or get a replacement oem bolt and nut.

But, if you can't get the valve cover off you should have someone else do it.
Preferably, someone with a masters in ass-wiping.
