cheapest KA-T out there!

okay.. I'm from Osaka and Osakan's (what we call peeps frm Osaka) are known to be stingy and cheap!

So here it goes...

I wanna know who has the CHEAPEST KA-T setup. Nothing to be ashamed of.. more so.. something to be proud of!

I think one of the cheapest I ever saw was using almost all used sr parts and a Ebay special exhaust manifold. Had impressive results though

I'd say go with the sr/ebay setup. But depending if you want power in the future, you might want to step up and buy a better turbo before you get the t25.

Current setup:
Custom manifold-60$
Custom IC piping w/ couplers-40$
Custom DP-30$
SR T25-140$ (60-70K on it)
Greddy BOV-60$
BOV flange for IC piping-10$
FMU-30$(friend)
Oil lines-50$ (local race shop)
Hobbs switch setup-50$
Boost gauge-30$
S14 SMIC-40$
Misc. stuff-100$

That make a even 640$ but i am running very low boost.

Fuel setup i just bought:
460cc injectors-60$
Walbro 255-110$
SAFC-140$
Wide Band-325$

Yea I've posted that link to Jordan's cheap turbo kit setup on here a few times. I dont see the point in some of the younger guys on here who are just learning how to drive spending all that money on an SR. When for 600-1000 they can turbo their stock block KA and have more WHP than stock SRs have. I want to make my standpoint clear, I do not hate the SR. But don't see the point in someone who can barely pilot their car around city streets, putting a $2000+ motorset in their car.Btw here are a few good links:

wow.... never thought turboing KA was this easy. On my old s14 zenki(RIP Dec 2000), I swapped immediately to s14 sr20det (yea back then, it was one of the RARE swap! haha). Maybe if I decide to register my car in WA, I'll get a KA-T setup.

And please advise me on how to be CHEAP CHEAP!

No fuel and timing management = the reason why people think KA-Ts aren't reliable.

yes...most people skimp on timing, that is why their engines blow. This is a forum about cheap turbo kits but id get some quality fuel and timing management.

iirc, those set ups posted here or links posted, i don't see any upgraded fuel pumps on the lists, any info on how well the stock fuel pump works with that t25 set up like that? kinda odd to me

My friend and i just completed his KA turbo kit. He used a bunch of my old SR stuff and some ebay stuff. The total cost was below $1000 i think installed at a shop since the manifold had to have a t25 flange welded on it.

heres the list:
SR injectors
Walbro pump
SAFC2
T25 turbo
SSAC top mount manifold
Some 38mm wastegate from SSAC
greddy knock off BOV
SR stock SMIC and piping
Custom downpipe
Oil lines made by the shop
autometer boost gauge

thats about it. We just retarded the timing a couple degrees and it pulls hard. Running like 10psi i think. Still working on the little bugs but feels pretty nice for no real tuning.

It's possible to do that, just slap on a fmu and retard your timing. It wouldnt be a safe set-up, but it's do-able, but for only 100$ more you could just buy a safc1 and adjust the a/f ratios.

all you really need for a a really basic budget set-up is:
SSautochrome manifold - $130
sr20 sidemount w/piping - $80
t3 turbo from a junkyard - $60
custum downpipe, hot pipe, etc.- depends where you get it from.
safc1 - $100
oil lines - $30
dsm BOV - $20
basic tune-up - $50

That comes out to about $500-700 depending on what deals you come up on. You'd be running stock exhaust, fuel pump, maf, injectors and stock boost from the turbo's internal wastegate. The set up should be enough for close to 175hp.
