SR S14 SR20DET turbo choices?

I think my turbo just died. I don't have any vacuum or boost leaks, but I suddenly can't boost over 1.8PSI. Yesterday I was boosting 6.6 PSI W/ EBC set to stock boost. When looking around I noticed a small amount of real thick black sludge in my hotpipe. Is there anything else I should check B4 I slap on a new turbo? I bought the car W/ the motor swap 3 years ago, so I'm sure a new turbo couldn't hurt.

Please help me select a new trubo. My S14 W/ S14 SR20DET is my DD. It has 3" turboback exahust, no cat, Z32 fuel pump and filter. stock MAF and injectors, FMIC, stock S14 turbo. I would like to upgrade the turbo if it will make my car faster, but I want a direct drop in. I like quick spool up to help me dart out into daily highway traffic. I plan to use Taaka lines for the install. I might upgrade my fuel delivery one day (when the injectors go bad), but I don't have any big HP plans.

Here are the direct drop in options I have found:

S15 T28 Nissan P/N 14411-91F00 $800
Forced Performance big T28 rebuild $800
Garret 2871R $1200

1.)Would any of these perform better than the other with my setup? When searching this subject I found lots of classifieds from people trading one for the other but there didn't seem to be any discernable preference.
2.)Are there any other drop-in options that I missed?
3.)Are they all really direct drop-ins, or are there some other parts needed that I am unaware of?

I really don't know anything about turbos. I'm just looking to bolt in a new part to make my car go fast again, or hopefully even faster that B4.
