is it possible to put the black valve cover from SOHC KA24E onto the DOHC Ka24de without modification?  if not how much is involved?

it's not even CLOSE to the same.  the SOHC valve cover has plugs on the side (3 valve heads).  the DOHC valve cover has plugs in the middle.  not only that the SOHC cover is about 3.5" deep and the DOHC is just over an inch.  oh, and bolt pattern and gasket is totally different, too.  not to be rude, but perhaps it would have been wise to look at pics of a SOHC and DOHC engine before posting this.  seriously, though, no offense.  just a word of advice in the future so you don't get burned when you're asking a legitimate question.

i agree with eric.....
SOHC= 1 camshaft
DOHC= 2 camshafts
