Unhappy battery on backwards!

well yesterday, i got a new optima battery. i gave it to my dad to put on since i wasnt home. it was nite and my dad put it on but he put it on backwards. he left it like that for a second or twp but it was too late. he blew the main fuse ( the one thats 100a). so i went and replaced it. so the car turns on and drives. but my passenger window doesnt go up. i check the fuse and it look fine. also the sunroof only goes halfway. when it gets halfway it does that sound like if it cant go anymore. weird dont you think!!

also my dash lights dont work nor does my stereo. so i check the fuses in the kick panel and found the "electron batt" fuse blow. im about the replace it but im still wondering on what could of happened with the window and especially the sunroof.

please can anyone help

if you dont have spare fuses, you need to at least test the fuses with a multimeter. turn the car on, and check voltage on each side of the fuse, they break in places they arent meant to. ot have cracks that could make them loose connections. Or possibly not deliver the voltage/amps it should.

You should always check fuses with a test light, it might show continuty or voltage but may be able to flow higher current. It should be able to power the test light on both sides, you might have to turn the ignition on to have power flow through it...

just b/c a few "looks" good doesn't mean it is. Therefore a test light or a multimeter is necesary.

There are some fusible links that it might have burned also. Check for them.

Except for you use a mulitimeter but you should use a test light, to make sure enough current can flow through the fuse....Bahh nevermind just do whatever your doing and I'll do it the fail safe way...

Uh, all a test light does is allow you to see if there is continuity in a circuit.

Use a multimeter to get actual numbers for voltage, resistance, etc.

This thread is funny.

Well a multi-meter can be used for continuity.....there's usually an audio setting to check for continuity in a circuit. Beeps when there's a good connection. simple.

As for the original problem....noone mentioned the MAIN fuses...there's two of them. One in the kick panel and one under the hood (they have a white box surrounding the number on the fuse diagram). Replace both of these and it should fix the problem with your car malfunctioning.

Common sense reminder.....ALWAYS use the same fuse number as whats required. NEVER go over....or you WILL fry wiring. And under will just keep popping.

Good luck.

Checking for voltage at the fuse is right, sorry about that.

I work in automotive all day long and I use a test light cause it is fast and easy way to check fuses, checking for continuity is kinda sketchy unless you remove the fuse. This is lame... S
