And how do i disconnect it? I need to disconnect it temporarily so i can turn my ignition key without the fuel pump turning on because the intake manifold is off and the fuel will squirt everywhere. This is for a redtop sr20det installed in my s14. Please keep in mind when responding that i only have a vague idea of how a relay functions and no idea at all what it looks like, how big it is, or anything like that. Thanks.

when a relay recieves a certain value of either current or voltage it uses electromagnets (stimulated by the initial current/voltage) to cause another device in the system (your fuel pump) to activate and or deactivate.

They look like this:

The one your looking for is most likely behind the drivers side kick panel, bundled with a few other relays. listen closely in this area and turn the key on, you should hear the relay initiate right before the priming of the fuel system. by doing this you should be able to pinpoint the exact relay. if that doesnt work call the dealer (no Zilvia wont do this for you too) and ask for the part number. it should be stamped on the relay somewhere.

Thanks, that's very helpful (especially the picture). Do you have any idea how much time passes between when i turn the key to the "on" position and when the fuel pump will actually start squirting fuel out the line that goes to the fuel rail? Is it only one place where fuel will come out?

Just as another possible way to deal with my situation, would it work to temporarily plug off that one fuel line with a bolt or something, or am i overlooking other problems with that idea?

You should hear the fuel pump prime (run for approx. 1-2 seconds) immediately when you turn the key to or past the ON position. this sends fuel to the fuel rail. The only place you should have fuel feeding to your engine compartment is the hose that goes to the rail through the FPR. The other is a return line. i wouldnt suggest plugging it.

Do you need to just turn the key to ON or actually crank it over? If you need to crank the engine over, it will send fuel through the lines and to the active injectors until you turn it back to off. If this is the case I suppose you could unplug the cam position sensor temporarily to trick the ecu into thinking its not actually turning over in order for it not to active the fuel pump relay.

S13- under the hood marked EGI pump.
S14- driver kick panel, below the fusebox.

FSM would have told you that too.

Ok. I didn't find it in the FSM (i'm sure it's in there but i only looked breifly) but i find that the manual is good when i already know a little about the part(s) i'm working with. If i have NO idea what something looks like, how it's assembled, etc, the FSM is of little help because it assumes a basic knowledge of these things. Anyway thanks for the help.

There's your problem right there.

The FSM explains every possible thing in the best details possible, you just have to read it. In the fuel pump schematic you even get definitive pinout and plug location for each part.
