Altima coupe confirmed, being released next summer.

From AutoTech daily newsletter (thanks to my firm, I am subscribed for free). I know there was a thread somewhere in off topic that says the Altima coupe may only be a rumor. Looks like it's FWD, too.

Mod, feel free to merge this thread with the "rumor' thread.

NISSAN READIES ALTIMA COUPE, HIGH-PERFORMANCE
SENTRA
Nissan Motor Co. will add a first-ever coupe version of its redesigned Altima sedan next
summer. The automaker unveiled the vehicle—and high-performance derivatives of its
Sentra sedan—at the Los Angeles auto show on Wednesday.
The Altima coupe shares the platform used for the redesigned 2007 sedan, but it
has a shorter wheelbase and overall length. The coupe will offer the same engine
choices: a 175-hp, 2.5-liter four-banger and a 3.5-liter VQ V-6 that makes 270 hp. The
engines can be teamed with a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable
transmission (CVT).
Available in March, the SE-R and SE-R Spec V high-performance variants of the
Sentra feature a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine. Nissan says the new models have
more power, performance and technology than any
previous SE-R. In the base derivative, the engine is
rated at 177 hp and will be mated to a modified version
of the Sentra's CVT with shift paddles mounted on the
steering wheel.
Output is increased to 200 hp and 180 lb-ft of
torque in the SE-R Spec V, which also gets a sixspeed
manual transmission and limited slip differential.
The engine features a resin intake manifold and dual
branch exhaust manifold, revised piston crown shape
to support a higher compression ratio (10.5:1), iridium
tipped sparkplugs, a revised camshaft profile, reinforced
connecting rods and a counterweight crankshaft
to help push the redline to 6,800 rpm.
The SE-R Spec V also sports higher-rate springs, shocks and bushings, high-performance
tires and high-capacity front disc brakes with 12.6-inch rotors. A revised cowl top
structure and trunk-mounted “V” brace improve body rigidity.

I think its a very nice FWD coupe: http://www.nissanusa.com/altimaCoupe/

Wish they made the Sentra SE-R a coupe variant.

270hp is nice. We all knew it was gonna be FWD so no biggie. But more importantly Nissan has finally recognized they need a car in this segment and seem to have came up with a viable contender. I'd take this over an Eclipse, Accord, Solora etc any day of the week.

Let's see how this does,a nd maybe Nissan will recognize they also need a lightweight RWD coupe.

Almost to a T too! Same light design, same quarter glass size and so on! Not bad for 270hp though. *a

at least the Altima coupe got more power than the Tc (I never like the Camry 4 cyl engine). May be I could trade in my Altima for the coupe (if my credit score ever improves).

and the TC looks like a mini G35 coupe

i'd say they were trying to make the altima look like a FWD version of a G35 coupe. considering how well the G35 coupe is selling

Most interesting thing is the new SE-R Spec V...is it 4 lug? That might give 4-lug s-chassis owners a new brake swap

The old SpecV track came with Brembo's. What else does Nissan use that is 12.6'' and sliding caliper? 350z calipers?

cool.. Nissan made a right choice for this to be a FWD coupe. I hope this generate enough profit so we can get some R&D into a light rwd coupe. IF this was a rwd , then this would compete with the g35 on a lower market. From the looks of it, it already seem heavy and a little too big for my taste. I want somethign in the s15 size

My first thought was G35 when I saw the photos.. its does resemble a TC tho.. oh well. Not a bad car.. and it wont be built like a TC so no worries there hopefully. Any clue as to cost? Its clean, but Id rather buy a used G35 vs. 08 altima

Actually, the old altima (I can vouch for the 1st gen U13), in terms of suspension and handling is quite good. They have the passive steering system (NOT HICAS) in the back of the car to increase/decrease toe. IIRC, it is called STC - super toe control or something...
