Have you thought about maybe running a megasquirt?
So you can run a standalone management type of sytem Or are you trying to actually splice the car harness and the engine harness together? |

I used to be an AE86 guy so Ill chime in...
If youre going to go through all the trouble of building custom motor mounts and doing all the custom wiring, why would you go with a crappy old KA??? A 20 valve swap would be 100 times better/easier/cheaper in your car. |

becasue i have the ka swap already i happen to be a fan of the ka and beter/easier/cheaper just depends on who you ask i like the ka as for the mounts i have welders torches and every thing else to do the fab work im not worried about getting the motor in the car just making it run is where i need some ifo

I am still a hatchiroku guy...You have an SR-5 so your diff is the small 6.3 rear, GTS is 6.7 inch. The 6.3 break with about 150 horsepower, plus diffs are hard to find for that small of diff. They were commonly found in kp-61 Toyota Starlets (last of the rwd starlets).
If you are on a budget, I would take my time with the 4AC that is already in there and work on the suspension and diff. You can have a lot of fun on the stock motor. Most GTS rear ends have a two pinion lsd in them, and have disc brakes. |

So I blew my motor and decided to swap in something a little different: pulling out the POS 4AGE (excuse the GAY stock pizzacutter wheels for the time being) then after pulling out the entire harness, ECU, and motor, i found this: dammit! i probably didn't blow my motor after all! well i was too far along already...so I decided to continue anyways... motor out a last look at the stock crossmember... the beast sleeps for her big day tomorrow... Nissan KA24DE= plenty of torque! cleaned out the motor...installed the custom crossmember close up of the welds on the new custom mounts dropping it in... so close...but no lighting so we'll try again later got the motor fully mounted...had to bang out the tranny tunnel and firewall to get it to fit as snug as possible without cutting anything. sorry i havent been working on this much been pretty busy at work... custom tranny mount out of box steel passenger side tranny/firewall clearance driver side tranny/steering rack/firewall clearance head/firewall clearance yum |

yea i got mine semi up and running, couldnt really drive it slow, but when i gunned it, it felt pretty good. Wiring was definetly the biggest pain of the project for me. Everything else is actually really easy and straight forward. I really wouldnt ever do that swap again. Im guessing you wana do it because you already have the motor but your not really saving yourself that much money on that part, and if your gona do it, do dual cam. If I were do it over, I would go 20v or if you must do something "crazy" or something, 3sge.

basically, for all those saying "oh stick with 20V/4AGE...blah blah blah" there's only so much you can do with the 4AGE. Pricing, parts availibilty, power potential, etc all play a factor. Consider the fact that a 16V costs about $500. Realistically with about $2000 you can only make about 200hp reliably. Why spend so much and you're only spinning the wheels to 200hp? Same with a 20V. Longblock, standalone, etc sets you back about $1800 and you're still stuck at around 150-160hp.

I have a freind thats been doing the same project for the last few years...his will be KA24DET though. From what I last saw he had a supra rear end, spot welded chassis, 16x12 wheels, TRD-ish overfenders, but hes been SLOW at finishing it.

I personally like the 4ag, as there is good balance. True it is not the fastest combination on the straightaway....bjork luvs post of Dorikhana my clapped out 86 took it. Bone stock 4ag. Performance rebuilding a 4ag is not too hard. There is almost unlimited potential for the 4ag.
170-180 is pretty easy. If you wanna go cheap, 272/272, AFC, 240cc injectors, ae92 bottom end, and some head work. The 4 ag is also super light, I can lift the engine and put it into the back of a pick up truck. The 4 ag doesn't break either. I like NA 4ag, although a 4ag utilizing a S14/5 turbo with a SC bottom end and 272/272 sounds really enticing. I am on my 8th 4ag powered car, and 7th ae86. I am concentrating on my 180 right now. T04, power fc, and cams next. Check the SDS website, 500 horsepower 4ag turbo from Okinawa if you want some serious horsepower. http://www.sdsefi.com/features/jan064ag.htm The previous owner of this car was beating countless cars on the street, including 600 horsepower plus GTRs. The rear is a 7.5 inch diff from another Toyota (in the states you can use Celicas with the live axle). saying that, I drove a SR swapped 86 and it was not tracking up at all. It was a stock SR14 motor, stock boost, stock computer. I don't think it was set up for traction at all, since the tires were spinning through third with no forward movement. I think with some suspension it would have been almost perfect, but the swap was halfassed.....it turned me off of a sr swapped 86. Plus I a bit of a purist when it comes to the 86 chassis. Here's pics of my Levin... http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...ight=dorikhana |
