s13 Green Water Coolant Leak

When looking around some posts in this forum, I don't know if I have found out the solution to my problem. Last, night after parking outside Blockbuster, I noticed smoke was coming under my hood. As I opened it, I found out there's smoke building up on or close to the engine. It's like right where the fan is at. Then when I looked under the car, I found a puddle of the green water coolant. Does this mean that the problem might be from a water pump, thermostat, or those radiator hoses? Please help.

I second that motion. Inspect the holes on the water pump.

Yea stuff like this without a hose being visibly compromised, fill the radiator up at home, let it run for about 20 minutes, and have a good look. Shouldn't be hard to determine where the leak is coming from.

1. Check water pump
2. Check rad hoses. I've had a hose clamp blow off before and coolant went everywhere.
3. Head gasket is fux0red.

If #3 apply lube generously and bend over.

Back! Alright, so this is what I did today:
I jacked up the car, opened hood, added extra water coolant into radiator, waited for a few minutes and then....there was some noise under the car that goes...drip..drip.drip..drip...so i looked under the car and the coolant is spilling out like it's having an orgasm!.... Okay I looked under the engine and took some quick pictures.

The picture that has the circles might be the place where it's leaking from but dunno what is. I think it could be the radiator hose that's connected to the engine?

Any of you know exactly what the problem is? I really want to find out where this crap is coming from. Thanks.

I hope you've got a drain pan under there.....cause it's a felony to let it dry into the ground....my bro's a cop....scolded me last week when a little coolant hit his driveway. sheesh....

Also, looks like it's coming from the upper hose or intake mani coolant hard lines. I had a problem once with my S14 where the small metal tube coming off the upper hose mounting point to the manifold broke clean off!! It was just old and corroded clean out. Leaked just like that. I hade to replace the entire upper intake manifold!!! That little part can't be replaced. You could probably get a shop to weld it back on but no guarantees it'll work right...

It's coming from the engine side I assume. Replace the thermostat and pull the hose completely out to check for cracks, also replace the gasket to the thermo housing.

Sorry I posted before I read your last post.

Yeah pull the intake piping out, it's easy from there.

Ok!@! wow, looks like it's coming from the top of the alternator, so check the water pump, throttle body, and IACV coolant lines.

Any coolant on the belts? What about tucking in paper towels at various points of leakage! Worst case block cracked...

Sorry, late reply damn firefox!!!

Back again. Hey thanks for the posts. I figured out the problem. The bottom radiator hose was unplugged so i plugged it back in. ^_^ I was happy that my car seems to be ok. BUT, after clipping it back on, adding water coolant, I started the engine to see if there are any leaks coming out again...none. Now the only thing that is pissing me off is when i start the car, i hear a knocking noise in the engine.I wondered if I just leave the car on for a few minutes it will go away, but sadly it didn't. Any ideas to where in the engine it's coming from?

Heres a video clip:

Sounds like the valves clicking to me. Or possibly when i first got my car it made that noise to and after about two minutes of listening i figured out somehow one of my sparkplugs was halfway unscrewed.

Dude, when was the last time you checked your oil level? Only reason I ask is because mine does this too. My engine is a POS and burns oil like a mofo, I have to add a quart or two about every 2,000 miles. Mine starts doing this, I know Im low on oil, so I add a quart when its cold. Start it up and within 10-15 seconds it goes away for me until Im low on oil again haha.

Dunno if thats your problem, but who knows!

Check your spark plugs for a loose plug first. But most likely.....
Sounds like a bad valve spring. It's causing the valve to "bounce" in place when it moves.

You can remove your valve cover and visually check the valves....you might be able to see the loose part!! Download an FSM, you'll need it.
