SR20 California legality question

Just confirming a story my friend told me about his SR.

He was once pulled over and the cop made him pull his hood. Of course he saw the SR and all the other crap in there. He fined my friend and told him to get it fixed. He didnt take the car away right then and there. Well, my friend really had 2 choices, fix it and take it to some inspector. or pay another additional fine in full. He paid the fine, and i guess it was as if he didnt get pulled over for it cause he got off scott-free. no cops hassled him. anyways he told me as long as they don't catch you racing the car, and doing something very reckless, they can't take away your car, just fine you. I'm not entirly sure this is true, can you guys input?

if this is the case then im way more comfy getting that SR swap..

A cop can tow your car if he wants due to illegal emission modifications. Just like they can if they find out you don't have a cat.

When you do pay the fine, you aren't off worry free anymore. You will have to pay the $735iirc fine and you will get a point on your license.

If the same cop pulls you over a second time then I can assure you he won't be as lenient as the first time.

Sr is cali. Be afraid. Don't daily it. Simple as that.

I see thanks for the info guys.

Yeah, I really want this engine, but the only thing bothering me is the cops. and I HATE dealing w/ them. and since the thing w/ the cop pulling my friend over i've been a little bit . .eh. But in the 3 years he had his engine he was only pulled over for it once. and i hear stories of people just getting warnings and fines instead of getting the car towed right then.

tell me it's it usual for the cop to take your car or just warn and fine you? (Im getting paranoid, lol)

Everyone say, "We love enviromentalists!"

Anyone taking bids on how long before gas engines are illegal?

Well if you drive a B13 Sentra SE-R, B14 200SX SE-R, or a G20 you'll be perfectly fine and have absolutely nothing to worry about!
