Clutch recommendations for autocross/dd

I've had a hard time through many forums to get this one answered but my current clutch is dead and time to replace. The car is a 91 SE daily driver and runs several autocrosses a year in sts. Engine is mostly stock.

My question is if a stage 1 type clutch is overkill for my application. It seems to me the replacement should be fine but would rather not have to do this twice.

Thanks for the relplies.

Yup. My exedy stage 1 cost less than the OE clutch. And it's very driveable.

i have a stage 1, got it for dirt cheap and yes dd is really good with it but if you plan on doing any kind of hard driving get a stage 2+. I would get a stage 2 if i had to do it over again (did the install myself).

^^^
I definately would get a stage 2 as well if I was doing it over again... but I do beat on my stage 1 pretty good and it's holding up great. But I think it only holds up to the 300hp range max...

I found mine on ebay for a good price from a really reputable dealer (had over 20,000 feedbacks with 99% positive)... you just gotta search a bit. But when I had an OE clutch priced out it was in the $350-$400 range. So it's still definately worth the few extra bucks if you can't find a stage 1 for any cheaper than $350.

I found several replacement Exedy's for $100-$125 shipped. I have been having a hard time justifying the $200 difference as I'm not sure the autocross duty will put too much strain on the clutch.

Although different companies all ahve "stage 1" "stage 2" and so on, there is not standard of clamping force or hp capability depending on the stage. IE an exedy stage 2 may hold more than a act stage 3. Although everyone above is talking about exedy, so I guess that doesn't really matter.

Personally I have an exedy stage 1 in my car and it's pretty nice. After driving 500 mi the pedal has gotten a lot softer - i liked it really stiff.

If the car's only for daily driving and the occational auto-x, then I don't think the clutch will be subjected to the kind of heat/abuse that will kill it off prematurely.

The Exedy Stage 2 increases torque holding capacity to about 90% over the stock rating, so if you really wanted to, you can get that. Comes with a 4-puck clutck disc.

The Exedy Stage 1 is like 20% increase over stock or something like that, so it should be fine for daily driving and auto-x'ing too, since you're not gonna be clutch kicking and up/down shifter constantly.

PM me for a price

Thanks for the advice. Decided to not be cheap and went with the Exedy stage I. The tranny drop has begun!
