My SR Runs hot on the highway. Why?

I have had my SR powered S13 for a month or so. For the first time this week I have been taking long trips on the highway and started to notice that my temp gauge is going up two lines after a long period of time! Which makes no sense to me because the cars temp is perfectly fine in bumper to bumper traffic even down town. It only happends when Im at a constant rpm on the highway. I have a Godspeed front mount intercooler, stock boost. KA Radiator running with a Taurus fan. Can some one give me some insight. This is getting on my nerves.

Thanks,

Your electric fan could be wired backwards... check which way the air blows when it's on... I bet that's it. It happens sometimes to people who don't pay attention to how they connect the fan. I've seen it a few times.

The heater lines are not hooked up. I might take out the thermostat and see what happends...

The fan is pulling in the correct direction, i made sure of that...

Thanks any other ideas?

Check your coolant level. If its slightly low that will cause spikes on the highway. If it seems just a bit low check the weep hole on your water pump. If there is any coolant leaking out of the hole your water pump is bad.

Most likely it your thermostat.
I would just take it out, and let it flow,

DO NOT FUCKING TAKE THE THERMOSTAT AND LEAVE IT OUT. That is really dumb and will not only make your car take forever to warm up but it can sometime never get all the way to operating temperature. The coolant will be flowing to fast through the motor not allowing the heat to transfer to the water enough. God some of you motherfuckers are dumb. You think Nissan would put that piece there if you diddnt need it? They want the car to have as little shit as possible, why would they put it there for no reason?

OEM thermostats only...I've seen bad stuff with no name brands.(Nismo IS OEM!!!!! I think its the stock thermostat off of a vg30dett or a rb26dett)

to check your water pump look at the weep hole. if there is any fluid that has spilled out (residue on the metal) get a new one

Wow, you must be someone important, You should learn to calm down, and writing in caps is so over-rated like power steering and power windows.

I think you should take your thermo out, cut out the middle part of it so all you have is the metal case, put it back in, with out the middle portion, and viola!! You have restriction, yet it flows like a 3 inch exhaust.

If your car is overheating on the freeway, it simply means that your hot coolant is not being cooled down, and most likely cause its a faulty thermo maybe your stuck in 1st gear.

Dont waste your money on a nismo, or even another thermostat. Youll end up having the same problem when your thermo goes bad again.

Your car will never over heat ever again.

Nissan had placed on there for you people that dont let your cars warm up for a few minutes in the morning.

hi.

thermostats are important.

they are also very cheap and very easy to replace, even if you buy oem. no reason not to replace it. there's absolutely no need for a ghetto solution.

IMHO, if you reside in a warm climate like TX/CA, it would only help you if you perform that thermostat mod.
I rather have my motor run a lot cooler, than hotter.

You can try the thermo mod, and if you dont like how much cooler your car runs, then put another thermo in there. Simple solution, not ghetto.

No it is a stupid solution and very ghetto. Just like other people said the [U]engineers[U] at nissan would not have put one on there if it did not need it or helped it out. Stupid people like you that half ass their jobs should not work on cars. To the original poster try replacing the thermo and see if that helps.

OK. Not running a thermostat can make your car RUN HOTTER. It will not show on the temperature gauge as well since it measures coolant temp, not the heat of your head/block

All fluids have a heat capacity, for that heat capacity to be reached the fluid cannot travel to fast through the motor, or it will not get warm causing your shit to run hot. This isnt his problem, but this is what will happen if you take your thermo out. If you run to cool, you will not make optimum power and your car will run like shit.

The taking out the thermostat and runnning a restrictor in there would work but why the hell would you do that? Thermostats arent complicated. Fucking backwoods mechanics.

Is your fan wired to a toggle switch or a thermostatic switch? If it's the latter it might not be triggering/and or is installed improperly, causing you to over heat on slightly uphill sections of the highway.

Call me ghetto, or whatever names you squirts can come up with. This method has worked for me and other cars that I have worked on and has never failed.
I was trying to recommend a method of troubleshooting, and not a long term solution.

Let me repeat myself for you ladies.

This has worked for me and other cars.

Its pretty funny, that you guys think your are straight up mechanics (no pun intended for the real mechanics out there). If you want some type of validating that you guys are in fact "know what you are doing", here you go.

You guys are all winners to me!!

I am done with this post. You guys can do what you want and I hope you dont get taxed by real mechanics.

Once a poser, always a poser, and dont get it twisted.

the temp of the head/block will cause you coolant temp to rise if it didn't how would we cool it and dissipate the heat?

I know a grip of people that had overheating issues in the summer time. They did the thermostat mod or took it off and now it does not overheat and it runs fine

do you not understand what Iam saying????

the temp of the head/block will not cause the temp of the coolant to rise enough because the coolant will be flowing to fast to absorb the heat. Your temp gauge will not read accurately because of this giving the impression you are running cooler because your coolant will be. Just because your coolant isnt hot, doesnt mean your motor isnt. Do you get it yet?

Your friends motors are not running cooler. You just think they are..
