Drift in CA? Going on a holiday to USA

Well.

I am thinking about moving to USA to compete in some drift over there and see how well i go. I am interested if anyone would know where i could buy a cheap car that is driftable ( i.e silvia s13 with sr etc ) and what they usuallly go for and how would i be able to sell it instantly? like a car dealer etc? i am willing to lose some money obviously.

I am thinking heading down there this year sometime for summer when there is some BIG comps.

Cheers
Thanks
Alex

Yes, SoCal is best. If you are good, then there is a chance. It seems like it is a 'good ol boys' club at the higher level. Good luck with it. If you look at the websites for D1GP and Formula D they will give you the specifics on what they require.

I won't disagree that south is way more populated, but in case need a break from the city, head a couple(ha, ha, 8) hours north to Reno/Tahoe. See Lake Tahoe, ewwe, awwhh pretty, then go to Reno Fernley Raceway. We have one date soon locked in for a drift day, and many more throughout the season are in the works. I've got a post in the motorsports forum with necessary details. [end of shameless plug]

You may want to post in the Regional threads as well. There are number of Shops in SoCal (and i mean alot of them) that may be able to hook you up with a car. There is one shop that I came across here that specializes in custom rides for sale, and im sure there are more out there.
Here is the site: http://www.protomotorsports.citymax....ge/1590762.htm
Youll have no luck with dealerships, and god knows what youll get from a private sale. But if that is your route, then i suggest you do keep an eye out on the Zilvia classifieds, your gonna notice a majority are from SoCal.
Good luck, and ill probably see you out there!

Protomotorsports cars are garbage, If you land in socal and want a clean chassis talk to me. I am known for clean cars and have found cars for several fellow members here. Including getting Halo in Canada his new car.

Socal, driftable cars for sale all the time.

Plus lots of events!
www.driftbuffet.com
www.justdrift.com
www.driftday.com
^ Just local practice days, and then formula d and d1 both have events here.

Hey,

Well yeah im not after a clean car. I just need something with ~350ps , 2 way, coilovers, etc.

Something that i could do well in a comp and on a medium budget - Or maybe ship my car over?

Still not sure to do BUT it will be one HELL of a holiday.

Problem with america is so many tuff built cars with the lack of drivers, most of the guys there drift on a conefeild LOL.

If anyone can help me out with accomodation please pm me ,and maybe some info on where i could stay, how i could go to events, etc.

Im sure there is nice people out there

Thanks for all the help im looking at proto website and damn he is expensive!

Anyway, to get a car with 350ps, a 2-way and coilovers, you're looking at about $6000+. And that doesn't usually include things like: nice paint, wheels, bucket seat.. You must have one hell of a budget to come over to the states ($800-1500), buy a car, hang out for a week/month/6 months and enter drift competitions. If you do it, good luck, it should be fun. My advice: Fuck a lot of women, not just one, a lot of them!

Cheers,

C

you can bring your car over and drive it on tracks here, though its not going to be legal for street use. In fact if your bringing it in your going to meet some tough deals at the docks as the Federal trade commision is really cracking down on illegal importers and your car in a container with the wheels on it is considered a no no import wise. Unless you specifically state your bringing it for track competition.

My name in Tony in the president of WWS Magazines Car Club and project manager of WWS Car Magazine. Its basically super street 4x4 and bikes put together....
The car club gives out sponserships to all the members especially the track ones. All you have to do is attend the meetings and wana participate. Let me know when your in cali i get 50% off on most of the parts for car club members. So better dicounts on certain brands the discount varries but i get a really good dicount on greddy prices that why most of my car is made from there parts. All the members of the that are intrested in drifting will have a proam formula D qualify to get the licence we are setting up the track day jsut for WWS Car Club members if you do good at the that track day then they can get you in formula D we will only back 4 drivers and there cars with fully sponsership from the magazine and all of our sponsers. So let me know or anyone who reeds this feel free to contact me WWS is a world wide magazine and so in the car club.

Actually, if he reg's it as track, he only has 180 days in the US, before customs will seize the vehicle and auction it. It has to return to the country of origin every 180days to stay legal.

And believe me, i've seen some baller race cars, auctioned @ customs because of this.

If you want to slip the car past customs. You can either:
*Ship to CANADA, then drive here.
*Ship to USA broken down. So, No Engine in Chasis, no wheels on car, chassis up on blocks. But, all the parts can be shipped in the same container.

If i were you sell your car there, and buy some stuff out here. I have some aussie friends i can hook you up with out here in the so-cal/racing scene. But, i dont take lightly to bull(#*#&# so, show me the money.

Sell your car, come here. Not worth the hassle.

IMO I don't really like California too much. My personal opinion.

If you wanna get big...Souther California is your deal.

The east coast is great...but for you, i'd bet California is where you'd want to go.

California is expensive. I don't know what the cost of living is in Melbourne...but yeah. Not too fun.

You could probably get a nice used SR20DET-equipped s13 chassis for....$4k or so, depending on modifications, condition etc. and i'm sure it'd be easy for you to come to the country....

IMO i'd save up $10k...try and get buddy buddy with a shop and get a job at one...come here...kick some ass...and then give me free parts.
