Brand new turbo does not spool after 80miles
I bought a brand new nissan S15 turbo. Now it won't spool. It's been working fine. I've only driven it 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Sucker just chooses not to spool this morning. Not understanding. Any Ideas? No Exhaust leaks. Drives like a smooth, no power NA.

No leaks. Running HKS SSQV. No MAF (HKS VPC), FMIC, IC Piping seems to be in order. Exhaust has not leaks. Purchased all new Nissan origial nuts, studs and locking tabs.

I had the same problem and I'm also running that piece of shit VPC. Double check your intercooler piping and couplers. Unlike MAF cars, VPC allows the car to run fine with a pipe off or leaking really bad.

I thank you for your input. I do not appriciate the "piece of shit" comment. The VPC coupled with the GCC is one of the best tunning units for my setup. Anything else would just be over-kill. I don't need anything more and the car has run perfectly. I'll check it out a bit more tonight. Sucks that I have to be here at work instead of in my garage.

make a boost leak tester out of PVC pipe and a fitting. hook that up to a air tank, slowly put more and more air in the system. You well hear the leaks(mostly wistles)
Also, take of your IC pipes and make sure your turbo is still spinning and that there is no oil in the charge pipes. Does your turbo make funny noises?

Why don't you just take the intake off and check the shaft??

My bet it a blown/torn intercooler coupling. If you had a MAF, you'd notice the car running like shit, but since you're running the VPC it will still run fine.
Even if the wastegate was stuck full open, he'd hear a little spool...

most HKS electronics are pieces of shit.
At least in my experience. Did you have the proper oil restrictor in line? You might have siezed the CHRA. The new Garrett GT turbos come with built in restrictors. You might have gotten an older shevled nissan oem one. not sure. might be worth checking into. Have to checked with your bare hands to see if it is seized?

^yup. I do not think people posting stuff up here is going to help you. You need to go and physically examine the turbo and make sure its good.
Even if you had loose couplers or a major leak, you should still get some boost even 1-2 psi, unless you are missing a pipe or something like that. You would also be able to hear the turbo.

After installing new turbo and adding a few miles, Turbo needs to be retightened. I was an aware of that proc. and seem to have a large exhaust leak. Thanks so much for everyone's help.

If you use the locking tabs correctly, and use OEM (locking) manifold->head nuts, it shouldn't loosen. None of the T-bolts/hose clamps should loosen... I'm confused as to what came loose.
Good luck getting it all to go together and stay together ![]()

Doesn't matter if you use locking nuts or not, the nylon melts and the vibration loosens the nuts. For the record, new studs from a hardware store are often not of the same harness (OEM studs are '8' IIRC), and sometimes not better at all.
/threadlock plz.
