SR sr20 problem...Please help!!!!

well not to long ago i heard tapping in my red top sr20det, so i stopped driving it until i was able to fix it. so last night i pulled the oil pan and found not nly brass shavings but brass chunks of metal. the motor still runs, but im not sure as to what i should do or what it is??? i have a new complete head. should i just buy a bare block and rebuild it or what???? im not the richest of rich, so i dont have much money to work with here. please give me some advice>> thanks

If you don't have a lot of money to work with I would say take it down and see what the problem is and what is salvageable and what isn't. Then if you need to get the parts you mentioned so be it. That's just my thought tho.

Yup. Time to pull that motor (you'll have to do it anyway), pull the head off, and drop the rotating assembly and see what the problem is. Most likely your main bearings are shot, but you also might have some cylinder wall gouging/etc that warrants a look. Once you know what's good and what's not (I'm guessing most of it's still fine), get new bearings/seals/etc and rebuild that sucker. Time consuming, but it wont be that much money even with machine work, and you know when it all goes back together that it's almost a brand new motor
