Crankshaft pulley removal

Well I had not been able to work on my car for about 2 weeks now and finaly went and got the "pulley removal kit" from autozone.

It had a remover and an installer...

thing is it was the wrong one, and they didnt have a part number for another one that would work.

Does anyone know the part name or number for this.. I cant find it anywhere and the fsm doesnt say which one to use...

I know it has to be the design that hooks around the pulley and applies force with a bolt...

thanks for any help
Eric

Thread the OE bolt back in a few turns, then use the puller. You need something to press against so it can pull straight out. Any 6" or larger 3,4 jaw puller will work fine.

and whats the best way to get the oe crank bolt off. everything ive tried has failed and i dont want to break the crank or damage the pulley.

Ive tried putting the trany in reverse and seeing if that would provide enough leverage to break it loose. that didnt work and it was starting to make the car roll a little bit, even with the ebrake on..

some help on that would be awesome too

How about a impact wrench? That should work just fine.

or just brace the breaker to something secure, remove the FP fuse, crank the car once, and bam, instantly loose. pry the crank slowly back and forth and it'll come right out.

Make sure not to drop or loose little crank pulley holder. Its like a metal C that sits on the crank, where the pulley sits. Easy Peasy.

I threw the socket on there with an extension, braced it with a tire, closed teh hood, and cranked it. Worked like a charm.

well, my engine is already torn down to the block and just the front cover and crank pulley. All i gotta do is get this thing off and the oil pump/pan and im good to rebuild the timing assembly. ima try the high gear + brakes and breaker should work

Is it allright if the crank moves like 40-50 degrees while this is happening? When I was trying the other day it was moving, even in rev. and ebrake.

thank you everyone uve been an awesome help

Is the oil pan off? wedge a pry bar into the crank from underneath to keep it from rotating.

Thanks u guys so much!!!

That was easier than I thought, just had to put it in 5th friend held brakes down, e brake on and huge cheater bar.

the 3 claw did easy work of the pulley too. I tapped it with a rubber mallet very softly around the perimeter of the pulley and it just wobbled right off.

But... Lastly, are there any hidden bolts on the front cover? Cant find a fsm for the sohc with the engine diagram in it. I loosened all the ones that i could see... but it wont budge. I still need to go get a seal breaker if its needed.

Thanks again guys!!

not sure about the KA, but the SR has 2 bolts in the upper oil pan and 2 bolts inside the head holding the front timing cover on
