My 240SX has about 49k on it (its a 97 SE) and the warranty is going to end in May. I heard the timing chain guides occasionally go bad around 60k miles, is this something I should worry about?

60K is when you should service it. Watch for tiny little clatters, if you hear them, rush to the dealer and have them replace the chain. They have to do it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>. They did it on my boyfriend's car (he had 65K when they'd done it. the upper guide had gone bad, so they replaced the whole chain). Do it before the warranty expires, it's SOOO expensive.

My timing chain didn't go until about 98k, I have an S13 but the timing chain setup is the same exept for the part that broke on mine they simply quit using in 95 and no longer make or sell the part. I swapped the chain myself, it is a dificult job, especially remounting the oil pickup.

Here's a question: &nbsp;Do the ka24e's have overhead clearance for the valves? &nbsp;I'm approaching 85,000 on my pickup, and I'm not planning on the timing chain being done until I get around to it (100,000 or so) or it breaks.

I'm not sure, but I can tell you that a Porsche 944 doesn't.

What kind of noise would I check for to tell if the guides are going bad? Is it something persistant at all times, or a noise that subsides while driving...?

I heard that violent shaking of the engine when you first start the car up for about 20 seconds, is also an indication of a timing chain problem. I've had this problem 2 or 3 times before, mostly in the summer, after washing my car, so I believe it has to do with a lot of moisture/humidity, is this weird or what? I havent had the problem at all recently.

I don't think that it is a timing chain problem, it probably does have something to do with the moisture.
