Help me pick a color !
Hopefully I'll be painting my s14 real soon but im not so sure what color to paint it. So this is where i ask you guys for help and opinion. The car is currently bright OEM red and I'd like to keep it around that shade (dont want a black car with a red engine bay) As of right now, i want the OEM purple that comes on the kouki, or maybe even the 350z orange. Any suggestions, pics, would help, and i'd appreciate it.
I want something that sticks out, pearls? metallic? dont know, help me out !! Basically if you were to paint your car , what color would you do it? Put yourself in my position ! Thanks guys. Its a s14 kouki btw. Lets see some pics !! |

Wow man, why let strangers pick the color?
It's your car isn't it? it's very simple... whether you can admit it or not, your car is an extension of no one but yourself, and WHATEVER that implies. I'm personally a basic black kinda guy. You don't have to look impressive to BE impressive. All the colors you mentioned are going to clash with your red engine bay, so why not a candy coat? candy apple red never goes out of style, has some flair, and has depth. There's my 2 cents. NEXT QUESTION: How much are you willing to pay? If you say under $500, this thread should get locked right now ![]() |

Well, I have to agree with Yoshi, why let others pick the color of YOUR car.. But just for you, heres my opinion, I know when I have money and am finished building my car, I'm keeping it simple and just gonna get a Super White or something... Thats just me and thats how I like it... Good luck choosing a color though...
How much are you willing to spend btw? |

Pay the extra money to have the engine bay, doorjams, and trunk color matched also. I think anycolor with a non-matching engine bay is a big no no. (except of course if your engine bay is black. I've seen some guys on here who have done flat black rattle can jobs on thier engine bays, or better yet, texture paint your engine bay. looks nice too. But overall, I say paint the engine bay the same color as the exterior whatever color you decide. I think you'll be happier in the end.
+1 for candy apple red. I'll admit it is a little played out, but it looks so nice. As for my car, I'll probably be respraying it with the factory white pearl. (the car is currently white) I may add a little bit more blue pearl to add a bit more of a blue tint, but thats me. oh yeah, if you want to see other s-chassis with different paint just use the search button.

+1 on the blue. I personally prefer simple colors like black or white like stated by some other people, but I just love that factory blue.
Factory colors look best if kept clean IMO. I'm not one to have anything too flashy. And I agree that the hood, around the doors/trunk, etc need to be color matched as well. Good luck with your decision. |

My car is originally red too. except its that gay ass s13 red. I'm going to have it resprayed the new Nissan Red. Just bc the painter recommended it staying the same shade. However i will have my door and trunk jams painted. as well as inside of trunk and hood. But the engine bay will stay untouched unless i can get my lazy ass to do it this week. while the motor is out at the shop.
I recommend stickin with that same red and doing what Yoshi said and add a pearl/candy/flake/whatever. anyone else have any recommendations on what to do to "dress up" (for lack of a more precise term) my/his paint? |

never paint a car a different color unless it's black already, after awhile you notice the red under and looks nasty.
if your car is red try a different red, look at different new car out there and look for red that would stand out. good luck, sam

So let me get this straight. You dont want a black s14 with a red engine bay but u'd take a orange or purple one with a red bay?
Keep it close to the org. stock red. In 3 years when you sell the car it will look better to the buyer. Last edited by Baka Sama; 04-26-2007 at 06:10 AM.. |

Thanks...color was the reason I got this one. I had a Concord Gray and White one before. But, it was so hard to find a Med. Blue 240, I jumped on this one even though I got screwed in the deal.
Yes, LS1. Just finished it up and whoring it every chance I get. ![]()

Just decide for yourself. That's the best advice anyone can give.
Find a color YOU like and that YOU think will look good on YOUR car. Who cares what other people think?

if you are going to paint your engine bay, then paint it whatever color you like. if not, i suggest get a crazy red like candy red, red with pearl flakes or some sort. but then again, it's your car and your decision.

^^^ agree with ThatGuy
I think your pass the stage of your mom dressing you, so it's better if you decide which color you want to paint your own car. GL Last edited by azndoc; 04-26-2007 at 05:11 PM.. Reason: orgins135 posted before I did |
