i've been looking at heavy throttles SR20DET Engine Swap Install Package Builder for the swap i'm hoping to get started on this summer. And have read that the Spec clutches were'nt great, so thought i would go with one of the other choices which are Exedy stage 2 sprung, ACT HD kit 6 puck unsprung, ACT HD Kit street Disk, and ACT Xtreme Kit Street Disk. Was wondering which is suggested, car is gonna be used mostly for daily driving. Also whats the difference between a sprung and unsprung clutch.

Yeah, no secret here, 'unsprung' and 'daily driving' only go together if your 'daily drive' is down the dragstip. Find a 6 puck sprung if you're gonna be making some decent power, otherwise just a heavy duty full face will do juuuuuusstt finnnnnneeee.

In short, Sprung hubs are more forgiving and allow slippage. Unsprung hubs generally don't slip. If you run a street disc with a heavy pressure plate it will get beat up pretty nicely. Another option is a 6 puck sprung hub from ACT.

i had the ACT 6puck sprung hub in my s14....wasnt a big fan really, not hard to drive or anything just didnt really like it i heard good things about exedy tho

Im in the same boat looking for a clutch man. I have been lookin around and I keep returning to the Exedy Stage 2 3-puck sprung hub. Good name, good product, and is rated to hold 400HP. Fits my needs.

im in the break in period on mine. the thing is stiff and grabby. my friend complained when he drove my car

yup you want a sprung clutch.

I dont know why spec is so bad... I've used Spec on a 383stroker in a model T-23 roadster making 819hp. One on the 454, and one in my SR. Never had a problem with em. I'm sure some have but to each their own. Maybe i'm just lucky.

ok matters what you drive and how you drive. unsprung clutches (6 puck) can be driven without much problem if you can adapt to the feel. my boy drives a 650hp s2k with a 4 puck unsprung and its harsh cuz its straight ceramic and either grabs or doesnt (i tried for 1 straight hour to get his car to daily first gear better and it doesnt work). cuz its got straight ceramic pucks. Unsprungs can be driven smooth, he used to have a 3 puck unsprung and he drove it well. If you dont mind "burning" (its not burning it at all) a clutch like that it doesnt engage all that harshly. it just matters what kinda driver you are. If your below 300 an ACT disc will do you fine. Its all preference. and clutch material, ceramic or whatever else. Most can be burnt a little for decent engagement even on hills.

I'm running a 6 puck unsprung OS Geiken super single (the pressure plate has 2 rows of fingers) in my rb25 that I daily...it's true, there's a cunt hair between engaged and disengaged but all in all that mofo grabs the way i want it. the absolute ONLY thing i don't like about unsprung is when you disengage and the disc rattles. but then again, when people wonder about (i wonder if that guys clutch is stock or not) if they know what to listen for then they're like "Sweet" if they're noobs, then they tell you "hey i think your throw out bearing is going bad ^_^
