i used to own a rx7 and whenever we would talk about speed on forums it always involved dropping weight and not so much about bolt ons. I know this has to do with the specific way that we have to mod rx7s, but it only seems logical to drop the weight when trying to begin modding- it doesnt even cost much. My point is that i never really read any posts on zilvia.net about dropping weight on 240s. Ive already drasctically reduced the weight in my 240 and its definately made the difference. AC, power steering, and most of the interior has been torn out, and i made sure the wheels im going to get are not massive 18''ers and are relatively light weight. (i still left the cars interior looking good however.) This does make a difference. Im just wondering why more newbie 240 owners dont realize that weight is a partial enemy of 1/4 times and all around accelaration and strip the weight off their cars.

I agree. When out on the track all the stuff I pull must add up to 100lbs or more (still need to scale it on street and track modes), but as a street car I don't feel the need to sacrifice and there isn't much to remove without being fully committed.

DSC did a lot of weight reduction. Maybe he'll jump in and mention something about it.

Anyways, it seems to me that if all you plan on doing to your car is basic bolt ons, then you aren't looking to be a serious force to be rekoned with at the track. Maybe just beat up on the occasional ricer.

With my car being my daily-driver, I wouldn't wish to sacrifice it's comfort (ac/power steering, insulation, interior) or enjoyability (stereo system) for going that much faster.

If I had more then basic bolt-ons, and wanted to maybe go somewhere and win something with my car...then I'd start stripping the interior.

IMO, a lot of people on this forum use their cars as a daily driver and, for the same reasons as me, leave the weight where it is. (they are, after all, considered by Nissan a luxury coupe )

im doing alot more than basic bolt ons to my 240...i was saying that with rx7s you can strip the weight add on a couple of bolt ons and be running slightly slower than a 2nd gen. turbo model.

The more posts you have, the cooler your title gets. And I remember reading some junk about people stripping their 240s and crap. People kept on saying that it would mess up the F/R weight ratio of the car... and ever since then, I haven't seen any posts about removing weight from the car.

thats a very good point. but i think he wants to just go in a strait line, and removing weight helps. so i guess it all depends on application. drag or auto x.

hey i was here before all of you!!!! its just they didnt have a forum the first time i visited. when i got tired of the nico board i came back here and was impressed by all the additions. i think kidynomite has like 1000+ post and doesnt have a 240sx, haha at least he gains the knowledge.

Ya, you get interesting titles as your post count goes up

Here's a link to my weight reduction. I don't recommend it unless your really racing competetively. I'd say the best part about my weight reduction was the added in-cabin sound. It gave me a much better feel for the car.

Like most people here, I want my car to be fast, but It is also my primary mode of transpertation, and needs to be practical. My AC and power steering don't work though, so I might as well take those out.

Ya know, I think that's the best part about having a loud intake and exhaust. Makes it easier to hear what the engine is doing and when to shift and all that. I really don't know why cars are so quiet. Plus, people get out of my way on the street.
