The novelty will wear off quick and then you'll be stuck with a computer that you have to use sitting in an uncomfortable position...or a baller coffee table.

it's been out for a bit but COME ON GUYS. use your heADSssssssssss!!!!!! Think about how baller that would be to have in an office and sit clients down around to use it. it's awesome for business applications

This is more of a commercial technology. But it will have a big impact if implemented properly. The project has been running long before the iphone came into thought.

Plus the iPhone works on a multitouch display.

Surface uses 5 IR Cameras to record the touch to the screen. Multi touch up to 52 is only the limit because of processing power at this point, later down the road it will go up because of more computing power. Its multi expandable hardware, so the applications are scale-able.

As cool as it looked, I lol'd at the "pac-man" style cabinet. There are rumors of a new ibook, that is keyboardless, with using the same multitouch screen as the iphone as an "input board".

interesting technology, but not my cup of tea. think of the fingerprints, think of the constant cleaning. think of the fucking nerdiness. i mean, how hard is it to just get out of your house and enjoy life without this completely useless shit.

tekmology has really made us think that its useful and helpful, and often times.. its not. sometimes, but not always. no thanks.

I agree with you when it comes to microsoft vs. apple with hardware, but on the software development front they have been doing some pretty incredible things. I don't mean consumer software like vista, but with some of the new .Net features. Silverlight is coming out soon and it looks to be pretty interesting if you're into that kinda stuff.

And yes, Microsoft surface has been shown for a few months now. It's supposedly going to run about $10k at first so definitely for commercial use. If multitouch screens were available for purchase, we developers would be having a blast.

what you nay-sayers don't seem to have caught is that the table is the concept. while they may produce the table yet, the consumer application will be more sophisticated tablet laptops. current tablets just use lame touchscreen tech from like 15 years ago.

also... the iphone is being blown ridiculously out of proportion. apple has a tendency to release products well before they should. you wind up paying to get into what's basically a beta test. apple makes some killer products, but it takes them a few generations to get it right. just look at the ipod.

...seriously, it's a 500 dollar smart phone that doesn't have a keypad. typing anything into it is going to be a nightmare, and, like all portable apple products, it will be too fragile for the daily use it will be put through.
