Does anybody know if it's possible to replace the mass air flow sensor with a mass air pressure sensor?  Can the ecu be reprogrammed to read one?

Call me dumb, but the only MAP sensor I know of is the manifold absolute pressure sensor.  How does a mass air flow sensor differ from a mass air pressure sensor?

oops, I think I got my acronym screwed up. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/lookaround.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':look:'>

My knowledge of car sensors/electronics is much lacking, so please excuse any stupidity I may display on such subjects. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Anyway, I thought the MAPS and the MAFS performed the same function...tell the ecu how much air is coming in so it can supply the right amount of fuel. &nbsp;Right?
If a car can use only a MAPS, from what I understand, the intake track will be less restricted and turbo cars won't have to recirculate the BOV to avoid the rich mixture-induced bogging/stalling when the throttle is released. &nbsp; So, am I just completely off-base or what?

HKS sell something for this...

It's called VPC Vein Pressure Converter, it's specialy made to convert air temp and pressure signal to fake a MAF signal...

They sell it for ~ 1000 $ USD

Not cheap, but you can get some extra HP (because you don't have the MAF restriction)

thanks
<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'> Didn't expect it to be so expensive.
I looked on HKS's site and they're $1200+ and application specific.
Just a thought...I wonder if JWT could reprogram the ecu to read/rely on a MAPS.

Check out:

http://www.link-electro-usa.com/ttools.html

The AFM Link is a piggy back computer that allows you to replace the MAFS with an MAP sensor...not sure how good it is but it lists for $560.

No, JWT (unless it's something new) will not be able to program your factory computer for this.

It's not as simple as it look like...

IT's completly different way of measuring the air flow.

A greddy emanage can be made to work with a MAP sensor. It's like $350 if you supply your own laptop. You can use a GM MAP sensor which could probably be found easily in a junk yard.

I think the ideal way to do it would be to use the stock MAFS for normal driving, and switch over to the MAP when the boost comes on. I dunno if the greddy can do that but i would hope so.
