lol like the 240 suspension is something special.

If you're gonna pick it up for $200, keep that in mind... don't go making it into a $10k project.

Slam it, weld the diff, get a decent clutch, maybe put a T25 on it...

the engine in that thing is a pretty nice old Mazda design, FE3 if my memory serves. probe guys swap them in occasionally and turbo them. there may be some extra work involved because it's a rwd version but there's aftermarket support there at least. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_FE-DOHC_engine

that doesn't mean i think this is a good idea, but whatever, not my money.

if you want to do that just to make the car halfway decent, just get something else

theres plenty of rear wheel drive platforms to choose for a decent price.

plus u probably wouldn't find coil overs for that thing unless you make custom

megan racing still does
"if we dont make the coilovers for your car, please send yours in and we will make you a set"

and if you drift this sportage pretty nicely, im sure others will follow.

 for trying to be different, but it just doesn't seem like you have the know-how to go through with a Kia drift project. There are crazier things out there, but the guys that build those crazy machines are all homebrew/diy engineers, lol.

You seem to have the drive/ambition to do it, now you just need the skills. My buddy taught himself how to weld and learned chassis/suspension dynamics while sitting on the toilet. He was able to build his own open-wheel racer using a pile of metal and old scrap BMW parts.

wouldnt the balance be an issue? just looking at it for a physics standpoint, do you think it would have a tendency to roll?

yeah, i'd be a little worried about putting sticky tires on it. lowering and a wider track width (from the wider, low offset wheels) would help, but you can only go so far.

you could focus some weight savings on the higher stuff. removing roof racks, headliners, sunroofs, would help in the body roll area.
