I have a 91, is mine limited? What does it do? Limit how high you can rev or the speed?

Both are limited. The rev limiter kicks in around 7000-7100rpm...shaking the car rather violently. The speed governor limits top speed to somewhere around 115mph....about 6100rpm in 4th and 5600rpm in 5th.

We hit the limit in my 93 this weekend. Thought it was going to be at 108 like I've read, but then we buried the needle well past it so its probably 118 like the coupes that still display speed when its that fast (the analog stops at 110 so after that its a guess). Man, its still pulling and stable up there though.

I did that cut the wire thing in the 240sx.org FAQ and it does remove the speed limiter. But Nissan is extra smart because 5th gear has its own Rev limiter. An extremely low 5200 rpm. The car does what looks like about 5 miles over 120 mph, so I'd guess about 125 mph. There are no more lines after 120, so I pretty much have to guess.

The 5th gear speed limiter has got to be the simplest thing in the world to deactivate ..... just inplug the sensor at the tranny and tape up the ends. Check out the FAQ on 240SX.org to c which sensor it is.

please someone do that and tell us what the new top speed is.
and btw, if you were to do an SR swap, you would have a new top speed right? it would be higher right? just want to know if the SR20 also has a speed limiter. |
