when I drive near cattle farm, I can smell the COW $hit as if the window was open inside car... anyone else have this same issue?????

cant see controls

I don't know about the ac smell, might just be cause the cars older.
But, the controls that don't light up is probably because of the connections on the back of the unit. You have to move it around or push it in on the back.
I have to do it all the time, but it's easy for me because my radio was stolen.

What model year is your car?? S13 or S14?? It's possible that the motor or linkage which controls the recirculation, (cabin or fresh air smell), could be broken. I've known a few to go out on my buddies S14s.
As for not seeing the controls at night, your bulbs inside the A/C Heater controller could be burnt out. On S13s they are easy to replace...just remove the controller from the dash & go to your local auto parts store. They carry replacement bulbs. S14's require a little more work. You'll have to go to the dealer to special order those bulbs.

you ever drive by Harris ranch in the central valley? It does not matter what kind of car your driving even with the windows closed you still smell the cow shit.
P.S. Idlafie pretty much has it nailed on the issue though. sometimes the system can make the car smell musty as well. At which point it times to break out the Lysol spray to kill that shit.
