Starting issues

I've been searching and reading thru some threads for the last week or so trying to solve a problem I am having...

I am having some cold start problems that I thought may have something to do with the low voltage. My alternator was bascially on its last leg and would only put out about 12.5 to 12.8 volts while running. I replaced the alt last weekend and now get a good 14.1 to 14.4 volts at idle, but my problem still exists. This is on a 1995 240sx and its completely stock except for a 99 Quest alternator and an aftermarket CD player.

My car will start then immediately the rpms will drop to the point it where it will stall. Sometimes it will do that, rev back up, then drop again, and then rev back up and idle normal. 9 times out of 10 the car wont stall, but it does stall every now and then. I don't have this problem at every start. Its happens just whenever it wants to and I haven't been able to pinpoint any simularities in the conditions when it does it.

I don't have any CELs and the car runs great for 160k miles. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There are a few things you can check. Tps, IACV, and-though its not the best way- the throttle cables on the throttle body itself. I would think its most likely the IACV though

EDIT: Longshot, but have you changed your fuel filter lately (ever)?

Ive only have the car for 2 months and Im not sure if the fuel filter has been replaced. It is on my list of things to replace. lol... I have a list of things to fix that is laid out by priority and the fuel filter is on that list. I might move it up the list and change it this weekend to see what happens.

I will check the other things you suggested also, hopefully this weekend.

Yeah I was gonna ask if its fuel related. That sounds like what I experience when I actually take my fuel pump fuse out to crank pressure out the lines before changing fuel filter. It'll run for about 2 or 3 secs and then you watch the tach drop lol. Also you can use 300zx fuel filter as well incase you didn't know...might wanna do a search on hear to read more about them. I put one on my s14 and I liked it, plus its suppose to be cheaper I think
