This silhouette wins the award for coolest thing we've seen all day -- and it's not just because the tiny dancer above is in the buff. This is a little test that will tell you whether the left or right hemisphere of your brain is more dominant.

Instead of concentrating on her chest, concentrate on the woman's movement. If you see her spinning clockwise, that means you're using the right side, or more creative side of your brain. If she appears to be moving counter-clockwise, then that means the left side, or more logical side of your think muscle is superior.

At the Switched office, some of us see her going clockwise, others see her spinning counter-clockwise. At least one of us claims to see both, while another one of us opened this animation in Adobe ImageReady in order to isolate the frames to see if there's any direction-changing funny business going on. There isn't.

I have known about this optical illusion for about a week now...posted about it in my blog on myspace.

I saved the gif onto my computer and know this has nothing to do with computer programing, eye movement, or any of the other theories in circulation. This optical illusion works purely on which hemisphere of the brain is more dominate at the moment.

90% of the time I see the dancer spinning clockwise and will readily agree. I tend to be more right brain oriented. I can make the dancer spin the other way however I have to concentrate on being more logical for things to change.

Furthermore, I have shown the illusion to, almost everyone, in my house and they all say different things.

Yes the leading leg and arm switch depending on which direction she is spinning.

A similar illusion can be see if you look at the spokes of other wheels while driving or riding as a passenger in a vehicle.

I think its bullshit. Started out going counter-clockwise, and no matter how I looked at it, it stayed that way. Then out of nowhere, it starts going clockwise.

If you focus in on her calfs.

Stare hard. at the left calf.
Look a little to the left of her calf in the open grey area. She begins to spin clockwise.

Focus on the right side of her left calf, in the open grey area, she then begins to spin counter clock wise.

if you move your eyes fast, and focus real hard.
You can make her just weave from right to left, continuously.

pretty cool. I just spent like 15 mins on that damn thing!

Well I tried a lil experiment I film it using my camera phone I looked away and 1st time she went counter clockwise and the 2nd time she went clockwise both times for 45 seconds.When I stare at it I can change the direction within seconds.......Or maybe im just high.

ok. i've watched it switch twice. When i opened this thread it was going counter-clockwise, then out of now where it was like a glitch or something and it switched. Then i read all your replies and scrolled back up top and it switched again.

THEN i watched it go counter clockwise for a while and scrolled down to type this and just now i scrolled up to see what it was doing and sure enough it had switched.

Something doesnt add up...or maybe i just have ADD or something, cuz i swear it changes like every minute. Its giving me a headache and i need to go to sleep.

But I think i changed focus by doing what downshift_sideways said on accident, my focus changed off her perky nipple.

I just did the other illusions from the OP's link. The second spiral video actually made me sick. It was trippy as hell though.
