I wouldn't see a problem with it if you don't drive like a tool. last summer I would regularly drive from boston to jersey and boston to philly inmy sr powered s14.
EDIT: welcome to zilvia

depends on your individual motor, get a beater if your scared, it's 200 miles from sd to willow springs plus drifting all day then 200 miles home for me, and i've never had problems.

Driving long distance is no problem on a well maintained sr20 240sx. The problem is whether you want to put that many miles, wear and tear on your beloved 240sx.
I have driven my 240sx a couple times back home from college which is about 800 miles away with no problems. I have a daily driver though so I don't put too much wear on my s14. |

I say get a beater, not worth the risk and you can get a solid beater for the price of a new motor. You can find first gen dsm's in the 2500 range, fun to drive and pretty good looking.

yeah like everyones already stated, if the engine is in good running order, and you're just driving to get there, and not driving like a bat out of hell the whole time....should be fine.
if you'd rather not just put the wear and tear on the engine, may want to look into something cheap, good on gas, and have parts readily available incase something goes wrong.

Then again, i have the tendency to worry a little too much, the whole "what if" thing. I know a decent amount of parts on the sr can be cross referenced with other US cars, but i'd hate to break down with a part i'd normally have to order and wait a few days to get. (keep in mind this is the northeast cali boys, it takes a little longer to get good parts, lol)

i just drove 1700 miles in my s14 with a redtop sr. a serpentine belt snapped on the way back from picking my ex up in miami and i got it towed to advanced and fixed it there.
other than that, the sr held up strong. i checked all fluids and essentials before heading out. alligator alley..bumpiest highway in the world. |

No worries, I drove my sr 2000 miles from California to Iowa, its just an engine(that I maintain very well). If your engine has given you reason to worry then maybe you should. You know your car better than everyone else.

I've driven from Nashville to Orlando many times. 700 miles one way. I've never had any engine related problems.
Just keep up with maintenance and your fine.

Which comes to my point of that I am sure the car will make it to college. But do you really want to have it there with all the idiots that don't care about it? Rather have a beater take the abuse from bad parkers, vandals and drunks.
