How bad will a Open Diff be?

I am planning to get my Differential welded at some time, but I want to know if I would be lacking in any way in a street race with an Open Differential.

My friend challenged me to a race in his Auto V8 '94 Mustang with about 245hp at the crank. And I just wanted to know if Open Differentials would make my car any slower or anything in a straight race, I was thinking I would lose traction in the beginning, as it will begin at a standstill.

Thanks ahead of time, I know this is a pretty noob question and it doesn't specifically pertain to the 240sx.

Common sense rule:

Do not openly discuss ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES on the internet like Street Racing. it makes you look ignorant and foolish.

Common sense rule:

Whatever question you are thinking of, it has likely been asked before. Therefore you should search around before starting a new Thread.

You will have a harder time hooking up off the line, but if you cant drive well it wont make a difference anyways. Most likely you will spin one tire and that means wated power. It also depends on street conditions and what RPM's you plan to launch at.

I can tell you right now, your probably going to lose. I raced my bolt on KA (I/H/E with sticky tires) against my buddies 5spd GT with only exhuast numerous times at the track, and he was getting me by .2 to .3 seconds in the 1/4 mile every time. Plus, I can drive, and he cant.

And threads about street racing are even gayer than open diffs.
