Cant deside - AEM or HALTECH E8 !?

Yes, i know.... i posted this on other forums as well...

For the past week iam reading everywhere and everything related.
I have to Software, i read the instructions - i know what both systems can do.

Still, i cant deside.

Both are plug and play with base maps for the S14, etc...

I need to be able to tune and use the system myself,
to tune it on the road.
For argument sake - I DONT HAVE AND CANT GET ACCESS TO DYNOS IN MY COUNTRY.

I need to be able to get a good drivability for dayli use, from the tune.
I want to keep all the auxiliries - AC/HEATR/DASH Lights and Gauges/etc...

I would like to be able to hook up an EGT to log, and offcours KNOCK as well would be nice - even if i need to use some kind of external 0-5V applifier.

I would like to know from people that have used one or both of the system, what do they think and recomand.

I dont care about other options, like PFC etc... only the two above.

Thanks.

Me and Steve have a long history going on on this subject.
Anyway Steve is from the "Haltech" Camp. I would like to hear from somone from the "AEM" Camp.

To tell the truth, its like either no one has AEM, or no one likes it enough to recomand, because i havent heard yet from anyone saying anything about the AEM, and i opned a similar tread to this one, on a few forums.

A friend of mine has the Aem on his 240sx and loves it. I checked it out and seems to be user friendly. Hes a novice and did his own tuning with some success and no blown motor. Plus I think its cheaper than the Haltech? Not sure though.

I have the aem ems. I pluged it in and configured it to my car. Car doesn't start so I called aem and they tell me to sync it. I tried to do what they told me to do and the car still doesn't start. I have a stock engine. Now the aem just sits in the box. I'll eventually figure it out but I'm too lazy to do it anytime soon.

go search for this on FreshAlloy - a lot of guys on that board run aem. KingTalon is one guy that uses it in the cars he builds.

i think haltech is better. I'll be picking up a E8 before spring.

Hey I have an AEM on a blacktop s13 L-jetro, and its taken some time but it works ok...the AEM dosent realy control the iac, and you dont need a narrow band O2 signal. Get your self a uego aem ems and you would be good to go....although also like stated above I have had trouble syncing with the unit....My evo has the aem D-jetro, car runs great for the most part over 500+ awhp but the aem isnt OBD 2 compliant and it has a cold start issue when it is realy cold and its probably just more tuning but its been a pain....I also have HKS V pro for both cars...the evo on the HKS has the ability to stay OBD2 and is more suited for the evo not just a generic box like AEM with diff pin outs.....On the sr the self calibration and target air fuel calibrations to get the car running are much better and easier than the AEM. Although for the HKS you cant get the software to tune it has to be by a dealer, so wouldnt work for you. as far as your build goes most of the people I know that run the Haltech E8 have crazy cars with monster power and custom harnesses....
For the price even of a used AEM and the plug and play capability its the way to go since that is one of your options...I have used a Greddy Ultimate before and I sold it for the AEM but again I was able to get the car making some power but not to what a pro tuner could do...I liked the Greddy I talked my buddy into the Greddy over the AEM for his setup because it has all the nice features you can use with out pluggin in the laptop...I will leave this off as the AEM is the nicest, inexpensive plug and play for the sr ( sorry but can some one with Power FC maybe add to this)

The AEM, not the DJETRO (as i already have a WB), costs around 1600$, not including whats needed to change to MAP setup.
The Haltech E8 - Direct plug in to the S14, with all harware for MAP setup, is about 1400$.

What is "iac" ???

IAC is Idle air Control

both systems are a good entry level engine management that if you'd like to learn to mess with the cars engine control, but because they are inexpensive they do have their glitches.

I have tuned drift cars that ran the Formula Drift Series with both engine managements, they all both fine. It's all preference. Good luck!

note:
*The haltech I used is the E11, I never used the Haltech E8 before.
*Falken AE86 (Darren Mcnamara)w/ the SR20DET, we ran Haltech E11
*FaLken s13 (Ross Petty) we ran AEM EMS
*Falken IS350 (Hiro Sumita) we ran Haltech E11

E8 is the same as the E11 only with less outputs, the drivers were only cut down to suit a 4 cylinder application like the SR directly. The two units use the same board, and interface software. The E8 is less expensive than the E11.

I really prefer the Haltech from the quality point of view, but hate not having all the Inputs and Utputs, that the AEM has (tunability).

The Haltech E11, is a bit mor pricy than the AEM, but has more i/o's...
Meaby thats a better thing for me....
Have to deside, not sure what to do.
