Anyways, my engine was apart for a while. So now i'm ready to put it back together. However, due to the fact that my chain wasn't under tension, the upper tensioner cam all the way out. I tried to push it back in, but it doesn't really want to go in. Anyone who has any clue on how to push it back in? Will draining the oil help(although i don't see how since most of it is in the oil pan anyways...?)? Or will i have to take the front of the engine completely off??

i know on sr20's you can easily remove the tensioner dont know about ka's i did my t chain on my sohc a long time ago so i cant recall.

but on the sr's which im pretty sure have the same design you just lift the lever and push the rod back in and re install.

So you saying i have to remove the tensioner to push it back in? Or can i do it by just messing around with it while it's still connected to the block? Also, what about the lower tensioner? Did you have to do anything to it? Cuz my chain is lose and i'm worried that the lower tensioner is loose too. And removing the whole front ain't gonna be fun  <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/whatsthat.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':whatthe:'>

well remeber there is a pin that holds new tensioners in placeonce that is removed they pus out. when i did the t chain on my sohc i replaced the tensioner and the front cover was off.

on the sr20de you can easily remove the tensioner. i dont remeber how a ka is but iirc its under the front cover and that must be removed

Ok, right now i only have the timing cover removed, eg the upper part of the whole front cover.... So i guess to take the tensioner our i'll have remove the rest as well..... dammit <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'>

Ok, i'm looking at chilton's right now and i kinda figured out what's going on. I actually removed the upper tensioner when i pulled the head off (i forgot about it

). So what i'm actually looking at (and what's confusing me) is the lower one. unfortunatly the stupid manual doesnt' give me a directions on how to push it back in. So could someone with an fsm please look up if it has the directions? Also is it possible to remove the lower tensioner without taking the front of the block off? Or do i even have to? Can it be just pushed in? And there is nothing to worry about the tension arm(which i actually confused with the lower tensioner)?

aww poop if the sr20deforums were up i could look for alink showing how to push the sr's back in.

i dont know how to really explain it but it should have a lever that holds the tensioner out, if you lift that and push the rod back in and hold it like that and put it back it should release itself on the chain

the forum is down today so i cant find it if i find the link i will post it.

Ok that helps a bit. But could you check with the FSM? Couse it's very important for me whether we have to remove the tensioner or not. And if not, how to push it back in while it's still in place <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> Thanx alot.

edit: I figured everything out. The problem was that the metal piece that covers the spring was getting stuck on the sides and going in. Once i set it straight it went right back in easily. Thanx for the help!
