So today i remove my door panels in my s14 to install some new speakers, and what do i find ? Where my factory speakers should have been were like 2inch speakers and im missing the plastic bracket thing ( im pretty sure there is supposed to be one)

so my question is how to mount my speakers. I was thinking about getting some of the wood that subwoofer boxes are made out of and cutting it to fit the location then cutting out a hole for the speaker to mount into..but i dunno if that would work..anyone who ideas or experience please respond....thanks

well, if you make your own mounts, you can fit just about any sized speaker you want in there
That would be the easiest way to do it, I have seen pre-fabbed kits online that do the same thing, but making it out of MDF would probably be a better solution.

Home Depot will usually have it, otherwise buy the most compact (dense) wood you can find to make the mounts out of. (some type of really dense fiberboard would work)

Don't use MDF. Thats too much overkill. I just did this a few weeks ago to my car and thats why I am saying this. Go to Best Buy or any other big car installation company (I guess even your local audio store) and ask for a black peice of plexi-glass it has a name but i forgot it. you can buy a sheet by 12" x 12" for like a few dollars and take a rotor tool and cut out the size of the hole you need and then make skrew holes so you can mount them in the existing skrew holes. Its not hard at all except measuring where the holes are at since you can't see the holes when you put it over the holes. But thats the hardest thing you will find. Also, the plexi-glass I am talking about is like 1/4 of an inch thick so be sure not to strip your holes on the plexi-glass like I did. It sucks.

I was also pissed when I took off my door panel and found that my speakers were like 2 inch diameter little pieces of crap.

I don't get it, when I changed the speakers in my S14, I had the 6.5" clarion speakers (which sucked ass anyway) and they were mounted just fine... I replaced them with Sony xplod 3-way 150watt speakers and couldn't be happier with them (best 60 bucks I ever spent in Wal-mart, of all places)...

What was the wattage on the Clarions? Also, were the Clarions 2 way or 3 way?
