Oh my! Now this is interesting little development! Beautiful RX7 concept.
Sorry to get your hopes up. Nope, it's a not a concept for an actual new RX7. Oh but don't leave just yet. Have a look at this:
__________________________________________________ _______________ Reuben Zammit has created a number of stunning designs over the past 12 months but unlike most designers he has been fortunate enough to have some of his designs approved for production. His Bugatti Type 12-2 Streamliner concept, which we saw earlier today, is pure fantasy but his new X3 sports coupe concept is built around an old Mazda RX-7 FD chassis and could actually be produced today with a minimum of fuss. The proposed engine for the concept is a three-rotor turbocharged rotary engine developing more than 700hp. The target of the project was to create a chassis that’s more rigid than the stock version but keeps the car’s total mass under 1,200kg. Some of the innovations include a new carbon-fiber roof, gullwing doors (these actually stiffen the chassis since they act as a roll cage), a tilted windscreen and new heat outlets positioned in the doors. To keep costs down, Zammit’s design leaves a number of features from the standard RX-7 unchanged. Parts that were left untouched include the windshield shape, wheelbase, vehicle track and running gear. Check out the gallery below to see a comparison between the new X3 concept and the original RX-7 sports coupe. __________________________________________________ _______________ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.motorauthority.com/news/c...on-mazda-rx-7/ Now this is an idea that I really like! Take an older chassis that's readily available and pretty cheap, but still perfectly capable(many still consider the FD RX7 to be one of the best sports car chassis ever built), and drop on some stunningly beautiful and exotic coachwork. Brilliant. Now if you noticed in the images, there are two pretty distinct designs. Honestly I really like both designs a lot. It's interesting that they didn't explain why there are two designs though. I wonder how much this body conversion would cost if they actually build 'em? I'm guessing at least 40-50K for just the body portion, nevermind the turbo 3 rotor. Oh, and those black wheels on the red design are gorgeous! Discuss. |

Yea it's too Vette-ish. Even the front fascia and headlights are similar. Looks good though, but it's just not AS classically beautiful as an FD.

in my opinion,
it lacks mazda rx7 dna. i don't see any design cues that tell me that this is a successor to the rx7... a car with this kind of heritage should be instantly recognizable as an rx7 and the designs above just don't convey the same spirit.

Damn, it's pretty obvious, but everyone's seeing the same thing. I was thinking Corvette (front)/Veilside Fortune FD (side)/Mustang Fastback retro (rear). It is indeed a beautiful machine.

wow...that looks awsome...and makes me miss my FD even more...;(...oh and they are not as unreliable as ppl make it seem, its just that parts a ridiculously expensive...i remember when i hit a tire on the freeway and one of the pieces of my lip broke off, it was $200 for the lip, and the dealership was asking about $185 for the nuts and bolts
![]() and yes, it is missing a little bit of the rx-7 dna, but i am sure they would work on it more...which would drive it away from looking like the c6 also...

The rear red one looks awesome. I would rock that no questions asked. Looks like it should be the C7 though not next rx7.
