Anyone who has rebuilt engines, do you paint the exterior??  Also I read somewhere that it is good practice to paint the interior of the block b/c oil runs off of it better..  Is this true b/c I'd hope that the paint doesn't come off sometime but maybe special paint is used or something??

Paint the interior of your engine bl,ock? I've never heard of that. . . That's a lot of heat and a lot of pressure for paint to withstand. As far as the exterior goes, again you have a fair deal of heat, and I honestly can't see the advantage to it.

I don't think heat is a problem with paints b/c some are made to withstand those high tempratures and the pressure inside a block isn't really that high.

painting the interior would not result in anything but destroying your engine!

your pistons go up and down causing not only hjeat but friction from the contact at 800-7000 rpmms a minute!

maybe your reffereing to swain coating.

as far as painting the block i painted the v/c on my sr20de and the 1200 deree paint couldnt hold up to it i sanded it down and let it sit for the correc time and still no good. i would get it powder coatied if you want something durable and that will last

I painted my GA16DE valve cover, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold cover with a 500 degree paint and it's been a few months now and they still have their exact same color they did the i painted them.

Painting the inside of the block helps seal the surfaces and trap grit that survived the cleaning process.  It also aids in the final cleaning, where small metal flakes and gasket debris can be easily seen and picked up.  It also may help the oil return to the pan more quickly.  However, it's a lot of work and not worth the effort in my opinion.  There's also the risk of the paint chipping off and the clogging oil pickup or filter.
