So you actually mean it will turn and turn and turn, but won't turn OVER until about 2 minutes worth of cranking has been done!?  That doesn't sound too good. Are you using a proper weight oil for the weather? are you getting fuel/spark?
When does it stop sputtering?

on a side note; did you install the engine yourself? or did you have a shop do it? &nbsp;Inquiring minds.... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

i put the engine in myself and ever since it has been running great but is just hard to get started in the morning(after sitting for 8 hours).....it will crank it for about 8 seconds then sit for a few seconds....then try again...after a few times of this is I will completely shut everything off....wait a few seconds then try to start it 3 times.....then all of a sudden it just fires up real quick then sits at about 1800rpms until the engine has warmed up a bit

What weight oil is in there? If it's 15w50 than that is probably causing it.

Is it the starter? distributor? spark plugs? &nbsp; It cranks, but it doesn't fire up eh? &nbsp;I dunno, but that's definitely not a good sign when you're sitting there, cranking the thing. &nbsp;I would avoid doing that if possible, find another car to drive until you fix your problem.

Check these things:

Wiring to IACV (black w/yellow stripe i believe)
IACV itself
Injectors for leaks/dripping
Wiring to MAFS (ground)
Coolant temp sensor

Ummm...can't think of other stuff...tired......

It's not the oil. &nbsp; It's something fuel/air/spark related. &nbsp;IACV has a big function in cold start. &nbsp; If it's not operating or clogged, you won't be getting proper air at cold start.

After doing some research try this:
Turn the ignition to the "on" position and leave for like 2min
Then try to crank her up

Edit: That will pressurize the fuel system. &nbsp; It may be fuel pressure issues for cold cranks

I think you should DEFINITELY check the following:

oil weight is too heavy to crank engine
poor spark(fouled plugs?)
poor fuel pressure(clogged injectors or fuel filter?)

I did like the suggestion above about "pre-starting" the fuel pump to prime the system pressure. &nbsp;I will have to remember that for the future.

Just curious, what part of the country are you in?

Well how cold is it there? I don't know where you live. If it is the IACV it should start right up with a little bit of open throttle. Does it?

I used to have a car that would die when you floored it. &nbsp;Reason being was that one of the cylinders would always foul out the plug. &nbsp;Sounds to me like your air/fuel ratio is outta-whack. &nbsp;Do you smell gasoline shortly after trying to crank it for like 20-30 seconds? &nbsp;Have you changed your fuel filter lately?
