Okay well as a lot of you guys know, I just recently got my 240. Living in So Cal there are quite a few thefts. I was wondering however, is a 240 considered a big "target" for theft. I mean civics and tegs obviously and other ricer cars, but what about 240's? Also, what kinda alarm like brand and type do you guys think are actually worth buying and will actually stop theives? What other devices do you guys use? Also, does anyone make a hood lock for the 240? Thanks everyone just wanted your general opinion on this since it does affect most everyone, Jason.

I have been wondering the same thing. Every once and awhile someone on here will say that they got $hit stollen, but it's usually the guys with nice systems and stuff. I don't think that we are a big target, not yet at least. Of course, the more mag coverage we get I think they more theft there will be. I know though, that Civics are pretty much the easiest cars around to steal and there are a lot of them around with some expensive mods or systems in them, so that contributes to them being hight theft. Integs also have that hood latch thing that makes it easy to get under the hood. How many guys on the board here have had there car broken into?

Well, from a security standpoint the 240SX has one big disadvantage.. frameless windows. The door lock mechanism looks pretty flimsy anyway. Either way, if someone wants your car badly enough, they will get it, one way or another.

I heard that Aladdin and anything made by Clifford is a good alarm system.
I also hear that there is something called a "dead bolt". What this does is provide and unbreakable lock to you hood latch (inside the car), so that its impossible to pop your hood from inside your car. There is one method that is real cheap (free) and works pretty well. Now this method is ghetto and can only stop your car from starting up.......disconnect the fuel pump fuse. I don't think are cars will be a big target since there are not that many around, parts are not interchangeable with a better car or cheaper car (i.e. Integra -> Civics), having one cost alot of money and not to common. However if they blow up even more in the import scene then we have to look out. edit: another good idea is not to show off, blast your system and list your mods (and car) on multiple sites.

my security system is called full insurance coverage... oh, that reminds me, i gotta document all my CD's in my CD collection, if my car was stollen i could never replace all those cds, i couldn't ever remember half of them...
way i see it AKADriver is right... if they want it they can steal it, or at least break something on it trying to steal it. nevermind the bullocks <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/lookaround.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':look:'>

Crimestopper is good I have one of their alarms with 10 sensor points and and i really like it. It cost extra for the amount of sensor points (i think that's what they are called). But it was around 250 way worth it for the stuff i have to protect.

I just don't make your car TOO flashy. I recently had a cd case stolen (60+ CD's). Pissed me off but theres nothing I can do I guess. I have an alarm system though so I hope nothing ever happens again. Although, I have a friend who has a friend that got a brand new civic broken into. They cut the electrical wires to the alarm and took the deck.

better method of essentially doing the same thing would be to install a hidden kill switch.

Really it's not the brand of alarm but the install process that makes an alarm great. You could get a compustar or aladdin and still get your stuff stolen if it's a crappy install. I'm planning to keep the alarm that came with my car and relocate all the components so that they are difficult/impossible to find. I may wire up another siren just to make it louder. Also, try to make the wiring look stock. Meaning integrated into the stock wiring.
If you're looking at brands usually anything DEI makes is good. I already have a fuel pump kill switch that's even hard for me to get to, but I only use that when I park overnight. |

Aladdin alarm systems are very good and rich in extras, but no matter what alarm system you get thieves can get through them. If the thief wants your car bad enough they can do several things to disarm your alarm system with no problem. YOur only hope is kill switches... multiple kill switches. What these switches do is cut off power to vital parts of your car so that the thief can't start it. I say multiple kill switches is because they will look for kill switches and some of these theives are quite intelligent in their business, but multiple hidden kill switches should be very effective.

in general viper and clifford (what i have) are pretty good. but a big part of that is because they are required to be installed by an authorized retailer and aren't supposed to be sold without installation by a professional.
for all its worth i've had my clifford for about 3 years and its been really good but i need to get my shock sensor adjusted sometime soon... |

viper is dei.
I've had my radio stolen.. they just pulled the window out, and popped the lock open. I forgot to arm my alarm.. Either way, I'm more worried currently about my radio, etc being stolen than the whole car. My alarm has starter kill, so when it's armed the car won't start without it being disarmed first. even if they cut the wires. even I couldn't start the car without rewiring the alarm, and then deactivating it.

how about that autolock I dont have but it seems like a good product to keep your car from getting stolen but they can always tow your car <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':nervous:'>

My gf's cousin who used to work at good guys put 4 different sirens in his car (1 under the hood, 1 in the trunk, and 2 inside the cabin). Even if they did get inside the car, they'd go deaf from the 2 sirens inside.

Ive got an Alpine, pricey but REALLY good. The one I have came with a small screen that tell me what went off and at what time. It also has a voltmeter, clock and a couple of other thing i cant remember. The only thing is that it takes a while to get the setting right(I mean not going off by a car driving by, I hate that!!!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

i have a clifford alarm, dont know what kind but it has a carbon fiber looking remote. it is so sensitive,i tapped the roof of my car lightly with my nail. it set off the alarm. my friend clapped near my car, and set off the alarm. my alarm has 2 super loud sirens, that do two different annoying loud sounds at once. i highly reccomend clifford alarm systems

Hubie hit the nail on the head. Installation is KEY to any security system. I prefer DEI only because I am a certified installer and have installed hundreds of them. I don't install the "starter kill" relay because you have to locate and cut the starter wire to add in the relay. No matter how well you do this you can see the wires coming out of the factory loom, so the thief doesn't have to search for the starter wire! Same thing goes for any kill switches. Unless you hide these wires VERY good, the potential thief can find these and supply power (or ground) to activate what you are trying to disable. Don't make his job any easier. I install a remote pager to any of my own alarms, so I know the instant someone attempts to break into my car. And lastly the more warn away devises you install the better, i have an LED's on the dash, on the back of my rear view mirror, and on top of each door panel. Why would a thief break into your car when you obviously have an alarm and the car sitting next to your doesn't.... There have been 2 cars I know of the have been broken into sitting right next to mine.

One thing you have to remember is that you can have a 1000 dollar security system but all they have to do is cut the wire. That is why you should buy a battery backup. Its also nice to have when you unplug your battery cause your settings are saved.
