![]() Well, I recently purchased a sard r2d2, and decided to put the mofo in last night.
I took off my stock bov, and replaced it with the sard unit. The problem is, now the sard unit doesnt blow...off. The car is running like there is no bov at all, even on light throttle you can hear the compressor surge tearing apart my turbo. i love it. i double checked all connections, and made sure the vaccum line was sucking, and it was. I adjusted the screw at the top of the unit, and it did nothing. there is suction, but the diaphram does not move at all. i tried pushing the diaphram manually, but i couldnt get it to move. what could be the problem? any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! |

Never seen one of those in person before so I have no idea on the design, but on piston operated valves they often get gunked and need a good cleaning and oiling to get them working tip top. Sometimes, they'll stop opening completely.
This is assuming you bought it used of course.

My sard r2d2 did the same thing when I bought it. I bought it brand new and wouldnt blow off. What I did was I disassembled everything. Took the piston out and checked everything. Didnt even oil it up or anything. Once I got it put back together and installed, it started working. You may want to put a thin film of oil but thats up to you. BTW, my favorite bov by far.

I found I had to stick my thumb in the input and push it once all the way in to break it in. Then it worked fine.

sounds like taking it apart will have to be the route i will take. i will try and open the diaphram manually, if thats not working, then i will take apart the unit and just reassemble it.
the bov is brand new, so im guessing this is the correct measure. thanks, zilvia! |

took the bitch apart and lubed it up. it works!
still experiencing some comp surge, though, mostly low rpm, mid throttle. at high rpm high throttle i can hear a quick chirping sound, right before the blow off. i'm guessing that it is also comp surge. question is, will the surge thing pass, after the spring gets worn in? or is it supposed to do that? haha. |

mine still has a small bit of compressor surge before blowing off too but i havent really messed with the spring much since setting it to where its at, try playing with it, i dont think a little bit of compressor surge will be very harmful to the turbo though

Yea I have a SARD R2D2 as well. I bought it new and it did the same thing, it wouldn't open....So I put my thumb up in and pushed it up and started to work okay. When it was cold though it would not open and I would have to get out and unscrew it and push it in again I guess to try and break it in. Eventually I got pist off and took it back to the shop I got it at, they lubed it all up and it worked alright. This is by far my favorite blow off valve, the sound it makes is one of a kind. I have not taken it apart yet but I might try that, like I said it does work but almost seems like it either stays open too long or doesn't stay open long enough when it does go off. It works better when it is warm outside. Maybe it just takes a while to break it in, although I've had mine since October 07

mine is usually still bitchy on cold mornings...it takes a few good pulls to get it to open up regularly, but when it does it works fine
