Hey everyone, I was just wondering if there is some sort of smog piping that attaches to the air intake pipe. I just failed my emissions test so now im out of insurance till i can fix it. The only mod to my engine is this chrome intake pipe i installed. All the hoses are hooked up but one. Its the hose that attaches the underside of the piping. If anybody knows if this is a smog device thingy(in technical terms) can ya help me out?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>??? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I would suggest putting your stock intake system back on,
and if you still fail then there might be something else wrong with your car.. what year is it?

Yeah, id say go get it checked out. There is a reaaaaly small chance that the intake is at fault. U mightbe running a tiny bit richer than before the intake, but it definately shouldn't have any effect on emissions.

Check to see if that hose isn't comming from the EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Resurculation).

Does anyone think that if i switched my intake completely back to stock, it would do better? I have a K&N pop charger also so im thinking that it might push alot more air than is needed, miking the car run too rich. Is this even possible?

Yeah, do put your stock intake back in. My friend had the same problem. I'm surprised that they even did the test with the pipe in. A lot of places won't do it if the engine isn't visually stock.
Theres also this Smog proof thing that you put in your gas tank that helps you pass smog. You can pick it up at most auto stores

Make sure your cat is warmed up...This is very important as it is the biggest part of the emissions process. Although your car may be warm the cat may not be. It usually taked about 15 minutes for the cat to warm up. O2 sensor is another big thing. hope this helps

Cat needs to be warm and you need to rev that sucker around once it's warm and before you test...Seen it numerous times that cars fail, and the tech just tells them to drive it around for about 5 minutes hard (read: revving engine and clearing out you exhaust), then re-test and pass with flying colors....No need to damage anything or ever get to redline, just clear it out! Hope you pass.
