IDLE problem
like the title says...when the engines cold my idle sits fine.
when it warms up idle drops...LOW like 600 rpm. if i turn the AC on the RPM will jump but not by much maybe up too 800. but when the compressor turns off its back down at about 600//700 driving wise its perfectly fine. please help me ![]()

if you face the intake manifold from the passenger side, look at the bottom left. it is kindof hidden but just stick a philips in there and adjust the idle. do this when the car is warmed up.

interesting thread, my car is kinda weird, i kinda have the same problem, but mines the opposite. my can idles differently randomly, sometimes it would be perfect, sometimes it would be at 1500 rpm, then i would turn the air to full blast on hot, turn the a/c on, switch it to cold, turn the air off, and turn the a/c off, then my idle would drop from 1500 down to where it should be, kinda weird, not sure why it does that.

hmm yea i could try adjusting it...
but if the problem was never there could that mean something gave out? cuz the idle problem came outta no where... as for the guy with the problem above me..i have no clue man. haha ![]()

i have the same problem...my car will idle perfectly fine, but then when im kinda racing it around and i let off the trottle the idle drops to like 600 RPM but comes right back up, i dont know if this is an SR thing because i have a few friends that have the same problem....

No guaranty this is your problem, but many times when theres an idle issue, the cause is a vacum leak of some sort, from a cracked hose to a blown air-intake manifold gasket.
If thats the case, then adjusting the idle only "hides" the problem, but dosent fix it. I'd try to locate any leaks in your system. Goodluck!

what type of engine do you have?
have you checked your ECU Temperature sensor/wiring? this sounds like your problem to me. do you have difficulty starting the car if the engine is warm? when you turn your AC on, it is normal for the idle to bump up. this is due to the additional load the AC compressor puts on the engine, so when the AC is activated, your ecu senses this, and bumps up the idle. sounds like you have a KA, because most with an SR swap are either too lazy to wire this sensor, or don't have AC lol. but yeah, it could be just shitty idle. adjust that first, then look into this lol....make sure your timing is correct also. |

i got a KA, yeah i know its normal for the RPM to go up when turning the A/C on, but its weird how even when everything is off, sometimes it idles at 1500 when starting, but most of the time its at 1500 after stomping on it for awhile. then i would play with the a/c / heater etc, then it drops, kinda weird, but what the heck, at least it anit all the time. my A/C compressor was removed from the past owner, but i still play around with the A/C and for some reason it works for dropping my rpms.

the ECU will bump up the idle at startup. this puts your engine into "warmup" mode. my KA and my SR do the same thing.
check timing/iacv/replace CTS. even if the CTS isn't the problem, you replaced a crusty old sensor that will eventually crap out. |
