What's up guys, i've been having a problem as of late.  I know that i have ABS because the light on my dash lights up when i start the car also have Hicas and a lsd. btw i have a 91.
But anyway the other day i was driving and i had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting someone who cut me off and my car's tires locked up and i slid a few feet. This never happened before is there something wrong with my antilock brakes?  ABS makes it so the car does not lock up right?  Can anyone give me some ideas why it does this.

Thanks in advanced

what type of tires do you have? your stopping power is in two places:
brakes
tires

good tires will make excellent braking as well. its your tires that stick, your brakes can be BREMBO but if your running crap tires, your still going to have crap braking

how fast were you moving before braking?  ABS won't engage below a certain speed.

It's also not infallible.  Did you hear the ABS pump or feel it through the pedal?

well your tires are good DEPENDING on their tred

also! what about the road conditions? how was the surface you were on? azenis suck in rain for the most part, and if the surface was slick or possibly too smooth the tires coud/may/would slide as well.

Does your ABS light STAY on when your car is running? Or does it just go out after you start it? It could be a number of things with ABS. If the light does stay on then get the DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code) from the ECU. If it doesn't then your best bet would be take it to a shop. They would have to run diagnostics on it. I could probably do it for you but you probably don't live in Kansas <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hmmm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hmmm:'> . Good luck.
