hello people,
i have a 93 fast back. my tire's been rubbing the front driver side fender well for a little while now... i've always kinda ignored it because i'm stupid. i took a peek yesterday and found that it has rubbed all the way through the fender well, through a plastic wire loom, and also through a ground wire. i left my fsm at home and i don't have time to jack up the car and check which wires are up there. anybody have a clue as to how important these wires are? i can't imagine them being anything other than some side maker wires and/or turn signal wires. i'm not gonna drive the car til i fix it of coarse, but i just wanted to make sure that my car's not gonna blow up next time i turn the key, or even worse... me getting zapped the next time i lick my hood. any help/ideas/concerns would be greatly appreciated. i will make friends with mr. duct tape soon.

thanks in advance!
danny

muah hahahahaha! I'll trade 'em for your Advans.
I need some tires man, I'm really itching to put them on!

Oh hey, I was on ebay the other day and there's this set of 19" ADR/TSW/American Eagle/Axis/Tenzo (one of the "best" wheel companies like the aforementioned, don't remember which one.) rims that I REALLY really like. I like them as much as you like my Volks. Just letting you know so you can buy them before I do. Great deal, something like $2000 for the set.

adey, who needs tires when you can spark-o-drift your volks? trade for my advans? if you get that lip polished, put some decent rubber on them, paint the face gold, and tape a couple of hundred dollar bills on them... i'll consider. heh... get some tires on them and i really might think about it!

anyone know what wires are up there? i'd like to gauge the urgency of this situation before i ditch my math lecture for a nice trip to home depot.

thanks again!

That's your main chassis harness. It's over 1" thick and weighs about 30lbs, so unless you have a bazillion turnsignals and sidemarkers there's a lot more to it. The thing has all the wiring for your battery and fusebox along with your lights, horns, etc. The main engine harness and ECU plug into this bad boy as well. Also your alternator and starter motor along with your ignition etc. The harness ends(begins) in this gigantic white connector above the clutch pedal.

In other words, get the thing fixed before you short something out.

ruf, thanks for the heads up... i figured there was a lot going on up there because of that huge wire loom... but for some reason i thought all the major stuff was on the other side. i'll go tape it up asap.

thanks for the help!

Yeah the "important stuff" on the other side of the engine bay runs under the front radiator support and is a good portion of that harness.

turns out, whoever replaced that fender the last time forgot to clip the harness to one of them zip tie clips, so it was hanging lower than it should have... hence the rubbing. i was very lucky to have only one wire rubbed to the bare wire, it was the ground wire, too. got it all taped up now, no worries.

thanks for the help!

I REALLY HOPE you didnt use duct tape to fix that and used electrical tape. If you used duct tape Id go pull it out ASAP or it can start a fire. Any damage to that harness will be a pain in the ass to fix too.
