... but dumb questions deserve dumb comments! Especially if one asks a dumb question then deliberately requests that others not post dumb responses. dumb dumb!
That said, you can make anything shoot fireballs if you have enough heat and enough gasoline. Your SR20DET will not "shoot flames" however, unless it is tuned like Koguchi's 180sx or (m)any other super-high performance, high (generally 400hp+) output SR20s. The SR20DET engine is not prone to flame-throwing as rotary engines are, which inherently run hotter than our pissed-on engines... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]() ![]()

Yes they do shoot flames. I was racing a mildly modded SR (around 280HP according to him, i would believe him) When he shifted you could see a occassional flame, was pretty neat looking.

ca18guy thanks for the answer, damn people on here can be rude. Reason i ask is cause my civic was pushing 260hp and it shot them all the time. and Yes it was tuned. damn you cant ask a question around here without someone getting all uptight. also with this said a civic with a turbo setup will and both my boys rx7's and supras shot them and they have hardey anymods. The rx7 is pritty much stock. Thats why i ask.
and what the hell dos this mean? "Please don't bother giving SR20DETs a bad name by being an attention seeking dork." can i see some pics of your ride by any chance? just so i can see what kinda car a guy who makes coments like this drives. And 400hp. well shit i pulled over 300hp on my 1.6 b16a and the b20/vtec that i just built pushed out 468hp out of just 2.0 of displacment and a big turbo. so i damn well hope i can pull 400hp out of a 2.0

I for one would love to see those dyno sheets.
Also for your flame shooting question, if you have a misfire system (Bee-R) it will enable you to do it but will shorten the life of the turbo due to higher heat levels. Just FYI <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> But personally I have never seen a SR throw fire out

to shoot fire balls you would need high hp , and modifications , what really allows you to shoot fireballs is valve timing cuz when valve over lap happens some fresh fuel goes into ur exhaust port and thats what creates the flame.

thanks for the real answer guys, i just hate people who flame for no reason. If this i like the honda boards i was on then its here to help people right? Then why make negative coments unless your helping the situation. oh here the dyno plot for my motor, ill get the one of the guys i built too

Why do you need so badly to know if SR20s will shoot "fire balls"? What's the point? It gets looks and attracts attention (not always the kind that you want) -- nothing more on a street-driven car.
What difference does it make what car I drive and how it looks? I don't have pics but I can describe it to you if you're that desparate to judge me based on my car. See PM. From what I can garner, you want your SR20 to shoot flames so you can attract attention and score "show" points with the judges/chicks, what a great way to attract unwanted attention (i.e. police) to those of us with SR20s in our 240s and give 240sx (owners) a bad image among law enforcement.

That is one hell of a linear plot for a VTEC equiped b16a. How did you get the power curve to not spike w/ the VTEC? I was completely expecting a dyno queen that spikes at 6500rpm but has nothing before or after (but then again you didn't post the 400hp+ monster <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'> )
And I second ca18guy just answer or don't answer. If you don't have anything productive to say STFU <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sneaky2.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

ca18 is right guys, he asked a simple question, worthy of a simple answer this weekend has fille dme with an experience that answered the same question for me, and high HP is NOT the recipe for a fireball. I was behind 2 fellow zilvia members on the highway yesterday on the way to a meet, one SR (dynoed at way less than what you have been claiming, but I will not blow up his spot) and a KA-T (low boost, still fast as hell) and when both of them ran out to a high enough RPM (the SR hit the speed cut to make it happen) they BOTH shot fireballs, and the KA's were HUGE in comparison, almost like it was pissed off.

So what IS the special formula for fireballs?
Just running rich? I was under the impression that you had to be running really rich, and have not seen flames from anything other than high powered JGTC/D1cars and RX7s, really.

My SR was dyno'd at 205rwhp and when running hard/not enough is prone to doing so. I have been told that putting a cat on my car will make this not happen. my A/F on the dyno stayed pretty close to 12:1 at the top end so a tad rich with enough heat in the exahust is how it was explained to me. and mine does it pretty constantly. the Bee*R rev limiter makes this happen by being an ignition cut rev limiter instead of the traditional factory fuel cut. safer overall for your engine. no fuel starvation. causes rich conditions in the exhaust heat ignites and causes fireballs. no go play nice Im off to watch a movie <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]()

Ok it like this, my boy asks, hey man your civic used to shoot flames, is that nissan sr20det deal your getting gonna do that. I reply man i honestly dont know. But i know where i can find this infomation out, so i post it up and i get a shity attitude.
But anyways the reason my car put out that kinda curve was due to the tunner and the low boost (10psi) that i was running. I built the motor for 25psi, but found no reason to turn it up that high as it would not be streetable and i dont drag that much. Also honestly the reason my curve is like that.....My tunner is Issac from elite autosports. He is the tuner and crew chief for brent Rou. The guy with the kinda fast eclipse. He just ran a 8.112 in the quater.

Hey man. Not all Zilvia is summed up in one post.
Anyway. You can make just about all cars shoot flames, and you can also do nothing to make them shoot flames. Agressive cams, and a lot of fuel is just about a sure was to make flames. -Jeff

on auto imaging they have a bee r rev limiter which cuts the ignition spark and causes a misfire... its supposed to make flames but i dunno if 360 bucks is worth it

i believe the Bee-R version i've seen was a misfire system simulator... not an actual misfire system.

If you want your car to shoot flames why dont you just put a hot rod flame kit in it. Easy as pie. Personally I dont see how your car shooting flames without somthing like that is healthy at all. Backfire especailly with a turbo cant be good.

Sr no cat and exhaust and you won't have a problem shooting flames.
My SR used to do it ALL THE TIME!! until I found out is was running way to rich. Not it does it everyonce in a while when shifting at high rpm with an atmosheric BOV. Reason is because during shifts the air is released by the BOV causing a rich conditition. Chickeys dig it. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> You don't really need any mods. Just a turbo motor or a way to make your motor run rich. PS. That pivot misfire gimmik is crap. In order to shoot flames you have to set it at a low rpm. It's rpm dependant not shift dependant like a real misfire system therefore rendering it nothing but an overprices two stage rev limiter. Jed |

The Bee-R misfiring system is basically a spark cut rev limiter. It's not just a gimmick. A fuel cut rev limiter can lean out your mixture to dangerous (detonation) levels. This is the typical way that most cars "shoot fire balls". An anti-lag system is a different beast altogether as discussed ad nauseum on previous threads.

Your completly right. My only point was that rev limiters can be had for much cheaper. And touting the pivot as a "Misfiring system" is trying to sell the product on novelty alone. A slogan that doesn't even hold true to what it is.

Oops sorry. It's Bee-R. Don't know why I said pivot.
Hey since you have it steeles can you anwser a quick question? Can you actually use it as a two stage rev limiter? meaning that at a strip can you set it to hold a certain RPM even as you floor it then flip as switch as you launch? Thanks Jed |

my car is always shooting flames, when im driving nice i get little baby blue ones that dont do much, when im driving hard i get bigger flames, and when i was on the dyno and hit the redline in fourth and let off the throttle immediatly there was a HUGE fireball like 7 feet out and 4 feet high, no joke.

There's a lot of people who have their heads stuck up their asses.
First of all, shooting flames is fun. If you don't agree with that, you are wrong. Second, it reaally doesn't take any "high horsepower', or "special tuning" to shoot flames. I shoot flames from my car all the time. Read my list of mods below. No special tuning. My car shoots flames almost completely at random. Occasionally when I'm driving the whole side of the road will light up blue (or orange) from flames. I think it's cool as hell. The only way I know how to make it happen on purpose is by hitting the speed limiter. Hitting the speed limiter shoots flames every time. All you jackasses who think shooting flaames is uncool, or it's just not a topic worth wasting your time over should give shooting flames a try. Maybe you'll even be lucky enough to have someone pull you over and tell you therre's something wrong with your car. --luke
