SR20 T25 whistle

hey all,

So within the last week or so ive noticed when I let off the gas under boost I hear a whistle-like sound. I hear my BOV(Blitz DD) and the usual compressor surge, but there is a whistle noise coming from the engine bay too. Ive searched but have only found "turbo whistle" problems while accelerating but not when letting off the gas. Ive done a visual of my IC piping and everything LOOKS ok. I've also cleaned the piston in my BOV but its still doing it.

It doesn't do it when I just rev the motor so its hard to pin point where its coming from.

Has anyone had this problem before? Im just curious if its a turbo related problem or an air leak somewhere.

thanks,

SB

Where is your BOV vacuum reference? My Greddy Type-RS whistles when I let off the gas pedal.

It's reference is the intake manifold.

Could be an air leak. Do you have a boost gauge? I know that whenever I have a leak, I "feel" or "hear" it first, then look to the boost gauge to look for changes in how it's "acting".

Could also be a high frequency vibration. Dipsticks like to wiggle when they're not in all the way.

It sounds like something to keep an ear on, but unless it changes pitch/volume/etc, don't worry too much about it.

It's a boost leak, does it sound like a supercharger? Look at the bov flange and make sure your gasket is thick enough that's where mine was. Good luck.
I had the same problem btw.

Due a boost leak test. Water and Dish soap works great to find leaks. mixed it in a spray bottle and spray your couplers and B.O.V. Flange.

Yeah I have a boost gauge and the readings are not out of the ordinary. And yeah, it does sound like a supercharger but only for a quick second when I let off the gas.

Kind of sounds like a hawk call

thanks for the info. Ill check my BOV for leaks here in a minute
