That's the second time I've seen that. Blacktop head casting with red valve cover.

Weird.

Sheepdog BOV sounds like a robot. I have a friend who owns one. Not the pffft shound more like a chuga chuga chuga sound. It's funny.

Unfortunatly we don't know. What we do know is that all early model redtops had a cast head in which the front was smooth. s13 blacktops (which are the same as the redtops) has a head cast with fins (like yours) at the front.

Now the question is, is the blacktop SR better? I would suspect that nissan must of changed something else besides the fins on the head. It takes quite a bit of work to change the mold for a head. However we do know that nissan was making 2 versions of sr20det's at the same time and that they almost went bankraupt(sp?) for making these types of desicions. So its not unlikley that they spend oogles amount of money in order to add "cooling fins" to the blacktop head.

The only way (that would really matter) to see if one head is better than the other would be to have them both flowbenched. Some time (if somebody else doesn't do it first) I will flow bench s13 red, s13 black and the s14 heads to really find out which one is the best.

Hope this helps!
Jed

So what you are saying is that they made two types of sr20's in 91, but we dont know which one is better. Hmmmm, well I will have to ask around and maybe I can find some info.

Yep, You have access to a lot more info on SR's than we do. Poke around see what you can find out and get back to us. It'd be great if we can get some info on this.

Jed

PS. They didn't start making the s13 blacktop until 94. from 91-93 redtops came in both the 180 and the silvia.

makes me think that the previous owner either trashed the Redtop, or simply upgraded to a Blacktop, and simply used the Redtop valve cover. &nbsp;I think it looks nicer <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;Do you see any evidence of a motor swap?
