I may purchase an auto s14 w/ ABS soon, and the car has the back half of the driveshaft, but does not have the front half that goes into the tranny.

Is the back half the only thing that is different in s14's or is in the front half? So can I get any auto s14 front half and just bolt it right up?

Correct. Front half is different between auto/manual, rear is different between ABS/non ABS.
