I currently have an s13 with kyb agx's and i left the springs stock, thinking they would be stiff enough for me... and the stiffness is acceptable but i can't get used to the height. I want a mild drop (about 1-1.5" max) and since they're going to be changed anyway, i wouldn't mind them just a bit stiffer.

I've searched and gathered all the spring rates i could at various sites and here http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=7590. Numbers are good but i want some people's opinions about which of the milder springs they like best. In particular:

1) how do RSR down and H&R springs feel compared to stock, and

2) why is it that virtually every performance spring for the s13 has stiffer rates in the front, but the H&R has stiffer rates in the rear?? How will that affect handling? In what situations is it advantageous/disadvantageous?

I'd also be happy to hear information amd opinions on similar springs that may be worth considering. Just to be clear though, even Eibach pro-kits are too low and on an s14 they were too stiff for me, so i mean it when i say i want something mild. Thanks in advance.

I have used tein s techs on two of my 240s and the drop is great coming from stock.

but you should just get some coilovers and you will be much happier.

I totally agree with you about the coilovers, but i can barely afford a set of springs right now let alone coilovers, so they're out of the question unless you know someone selling a set for $200

Regarding the S-techs, the drop is definitely in the right range but i think they'd be a bit stiff for me. But did you find that much loss of suspension travel (irrespective of spring rate) to be troublesome on rough roads or anything? Any issues bottoming out?

yea i was rolling on tein s tech springs and tociko blue shocks
the tein springs gives you a 1.5 drop in the front and 1.7 drop in the rear, it rides smooth, just like stock, but they can take a damn hard turn, the drop
isnt ridiculously low, its just a little more drop then what the stock has,
personally i would go lower,but it get the job done!

I bought some cheepo Megan Racing springs (twice) for $120.00 shipped from Enjuku Racing to hold me over till I save up for coil-overs...Been on my 89 for over 6 months with kyb gr2's and they arent bad at all.. I got these for the second time because I was a cheap ass on my 95 S14 a couple years ago till I got my coil-overs and I never had a problem with them, and they were on that car for 7 months of street driving and put back on it when I sold it... hehehehe They give an o.k. drop, and ride decent..drop is maybe 1.7~1.8... Not bad for the $ and bieng Megan stuff..

The s-tech's are very close to stock, in ride comfort.

i wouldnt really worry about lowering springs being to stiff.

Really?? It's hard for me to imagine, being that the stock springs are 123 lb/in MAX (i've found several numbers, that's by far the highest, from a 1990 SE) and the S-Techs are 210 fr. and 180 rr. But anyway i'm glad to know you found these comfy because that should mean going with something in between like RSR downs should be very comfy

rs*r down springs are really low for some people you should try rs*r race springs a little higher but still a nice drop...

btw im currently looking for a set of race springs if anyone has any (already posted twice in WTB section) give me a drop thanks =)

I run your set up

KYB 8 wat adjustable shocks in back and 4 way adjustable struts in front. I run RSR springs, the stiff ones. they are great. Little bumpy, but good and solid, and not as gnarly as coil overs.

H&R is for older VW rabbits and GTI's.

Well, RSR race is way to stiff for me, but from what i read the drop should be pretty much identical with the Downs. The specs say Downs are .1" lower in the front only, that should make no difference.

LoL i probably won't be going with H&R, i'd prefer a straight rate spring. The RSR Downs might work well for me.

i used to run downs and i got almost a 2inch drop with them... my friend is running it currently on a fastback with stock 91` 15 wheels and also did close to 2 inches drop... right now im running eibach prokit not much of a drop but theyre a nice ride i want something more stiff, my reason for looking for the race springs not much of a drop either but a bit more what im looking for...

oh and i guy i know rides on H&R springs on his fastback and not much of a difference if any between my shitty drop eibach

Ive had Eibachs sportlines, they dropped my car roughly 1.75" all around...

Get some swift springs. If you want good springs with a mild drop and are set on that instead of coilovers.

I never thought of Swift, but since you mentioned it i checked their website and it looks pretty good.

I've also been giving some thought to just cutting the stock front springs a little and trying it that way first. Have any of you guys ever tried that? How did it turn out?
