![]() Hi, I'd like to ask you guys, how important is it to get the flywheel resurfaced when replacing a clutch?
I feel really strongly about getting it resurfaced, but I was told by a friend that you can just "scuff" the flywheel. He also mentioned that he has done so for his past two vehicles and they have lasted him a long while. I'm either going to have him replace the clutch for half the price of a shop, or go to a shop and pay a lot to get my clutch fixed. What are your opinions / experience? |

WHAT kind of clutch are you installing. If you are currently beating the crap out of or have beaten the clutch up the fly wheel will most likely have hot spots or glazing at worst. If you have either scuffing wont cut it, just get it resurfaced it doesnt cost much and gives you fresh steel to beat up. If you have the money spend the $180 and get a light weight that way your clutch package will be complete. Have fun clutches are easy to replace you should do it with your friend screw the shop. GL

Installing Exedy OEM Clutch kit for ka24de.
I am assuming that the flywheel has both hot spots and is glazed. I'm 75% sure of this due to my driving habits: Redlining twice a week, downshifting / engine braking at every stop. That is why I would really like the clutch to be resurfaced. If I go with the friend option, I most likely will not be able to get the clutch resurfaced due to time constraints. |

You can get a new flywheel at nearly any auto parts store for not much more than having the old one resurfaced. I've done clutch jobs without resurfacing but it's hit or miss how the car will drive. I wouldn't skip it if you drive the car hard at all.
