HELP ME! car will only push start!

sorry i know there are a lot of threads about the key turning and nothing happening but i didn't find much help for my case.

so it was just out of no where i tried to start my car and it was cranking and then just stopped. its not a battery problem. i have a new battery and tried jumping the car.

now when i turn the key the only thing happens is the little click sound where the fuse box is next to the dead pedal. but whats weird is that i can start the car if i push start it . . . .

someone help me please!!!

I know this probably wont help much, but it's worked for me in the past for different issues. Open up the fuse box, and wiggle every fuse there, sometimes it works!

Negative Response...Like stated check starter, wiring etc...
I know this has been covered before on the forum. Sometimes its easier finding what does work so we can help you to pin point what doesnt.

I'm not home so i don't have access to any of my schematics or id look for you. Im in japan and dont know when ill be home. Probably not for another week or so but it sounds like your getting power to your ignition relay but not to the starter. By you being able to push start it tells me its somewhere between the key and the starter. First thing i would do is ensure no wires disconnected from your starter. Try looking in a wiring schematic and see what is between the ignition and the starter. Could be something as simple as a disconnected wire or a bad relay/fuse under the hood. Just use a schematic to see what could stop power from getting to your starter and isolate it from there. Wish i were home so i could give you better ideas of what to check but maybe this will help. Good luck with getting it started.

my buddy had the same problem - turns out that a small guage wire that supplied power fell off - look close @ the starter for loose wires/plugs - took him a while to find the wire

Check to see if the little plstic piece is still in your clutch pedal. Mine broke and the car would not start when clutch was in because the little button wasn't depressed.

This happened to me before, there is a spade connector on the solenoid check for that. Its kind of hard to see whats going on but if you feel it its pretty obvious and also check for unplugged wires. hope that helps

Oh jeeze, this problem is the same problem I had the first day I got the car. Check to see if everything on the starter is tight. I blew a fuse and for some reason at the same time the alternator cable blew off. Everything would work, I would hear a click, but no cranking.

check the switch on the clutch pedal. has the car been doing it since you got it? or it just happened? it may also be, that the alarm has failed and is preventing power towards the starter.

ah...and another thing. make sure the connection to the battery is as tight as reasonably possible and that your ground wire is connected correctly.

and like one of the previous guys said, check the wiring for your clutch safety switch (plug located behind clutch pedal)...had mine bypassed and one time it came loose from the butt splice and it gave me the same issues that you're having right now

Thats the starter solenoid. Your gonna be better off buying a new starter. Trust me, Its happend to me about 6 times.

OR... you could get a starter adjustment tool. ( A HAMMER)

tap the starter a few times, then see if it'll kick over.

check your battery terminals for corrosion and make sure they are tight. if you can just pull them off, they are too lose.

it's your battery.

try jump starting your car, same thing happened to me.

i tried cranking it and i would hear the little ticking noise by the fuse box by the dead pedal.

pushed started it and it worked.

but i wouldnt start normally. i thought it was my starter but i just got that replaced about a month ago when it happened.

tried jumper cables and it started right up.

went to get a new optima battery, works great everytime now.

pull out your VOM/DMM then check see if you are getting 11volts or higher on the hotwire connected from the alternator/battery. i had this problem last week and i ran out of 2 starters then replaced them. then check and cleaned/replaced my battery terminals. check ground

this happened to my homie a while ago

try pushing down really hard on the clutch pedal
there is a starter relay switch under it

if that doesnt work then just put the car in neutral and put your left foot under the clutch pedal and depress the switch

if it works

then you owe me
