![]() Hey all. I have a 1991 DOHC auto hatch. Ok so ive hit the search button and typed in brake light, buzzing brake light, buzzing dash etc etc. The only thread that sounded sort of similar to mine was this one http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...ng+brake+light . So I was starting to think that it was my alternator when I went to go get it tested out at autozone. They said that my diode pattern is good so my alternator is good as well. I knew my battery was bad so i replaced it as well. The brake light is on and im still getting the buzzing noise as mentioned in the other thread. All my brake pads are new and installed properly and I even have a new BMC as well and made sure the little clip installed next to it is installed. Thanks. All help is appreciated and if helpful rep will be rewarded!
These are some of the sypmtoms = The buzzing sound like it could be coming from the dash or behind the cluster or even by the fuse panel by my feet, its hard to tell. It only happens when im driving down the road 30mph+ and then the buzzing will occur only till I let my foot off of the gas pedal, then the buzzing stops for a couple seconds. Its a repetetive process. The buzzing happens every 8-10 second gap from when i lift my foot off the gas to when i step on the gas again. While the buzzing noise is occuring the brake light on the dash goes off but when i lift my foot off the gas and the buzzing stops the light comes back on =0/

It still might be the alternator. I've experienced the buzzing symptom, as well as the brake light being on, and it was my alternator. It was still charging just fine, but changing it to a different one solved the problem.

You have to load test the alternator, off the car. The machine they use can measure output voltage but if the regulator has a hot spot it may not show bad until it warms up or is under load. That's why I don't trust those places.

Alright cool thanks guys, I will def have to check my alternator the alternate way by doing the load test and yeah i was kinda leer about taking it to them to see if it was good or not. The bmc is fine topped off properly and all. And sorry I mean the brake light in the dash. Thanks everyone for the helpful input. I am going to load test the alternator this weekend.

Update. Ok so Ive replaced the alternator and ive replaced the battery as well. Ive also checked the ebrake sensor and its not that either. The rear pads are at 50% and im going to be replacing those as well but I dont think that would cause the buzzing sound either? Any further suggestions? Thanks! All help appreciated!

there is two sensors that are pushed in by your brake pedal when you realease the brake...the one to the right(if you are looking at your brake pedal straight) is the brake light switch. make sure the plastic piece that presses this in didnt fall out or it might need adjusting

The solution they talked about works for a rear exterior brake light that is always stuck on. The rubber spacer hits the plunger on the brake light switch to tell the car that the brake pedal is no longer being depressed.
Missing this spacer will make the car think that the brake is always on because nothing is hitting the plunger. I didn't know which brake lights you were talking about so I asked. I guess they didn't see your answer and assumed that it was the outside lights. |

cause the brake light switch make contact to that plastic peace so pretty much when pedal is off the the plastic peace push the pin switch telling the brake light to shut off. so when u brake pin switch open making the brake lights to work , its like your door pin switch when u push them dome light off if u release the door pin lights on , same thing for the brake, but instead of the door pressing the switch on the brake pedal what push the switch is a plastic peace that fall down some times .

When does this buzzing occur? Only when the car is on? Or all the time?
What area is it coming from?

Just curious but do you have ABS? You may find some of the info from the FSM braking section to be helpful http://www.240edge.com/manuals/91-94_240sx/br.pdf If you further isolate where the buzzing is originating let us know as it might help to give you more help in what direction to pursue. To me a "buzzing" sound leans towards a relay being toggled or something shorting out and arcing but that's unlikely because more than likely with an errant ground you'd have more problems that what you're having now. Good luck!

man, you need to re-write your original post. I read the whole thread and I still don't know what problem you are having. You need to lay out in a clear and concise manner what symptoms you are experiencing, because just listing the search terms you used doesn't tell us much.

dash brake light is on. when car is going 30+ mph it makes buzzing sound. buzzing sound disappears when car is decelerating. that's pretty much the jist of it right?
have you checked all your fuses? Usually when the alternator is bad the brake light and battery light turn on simultaneously so I wouldn't think it's that. Have you checked your ebrake?

Im gonna have to check that out asap after work. Sorry for not being clear and concise to begin with guys. Thanks for putting up with it and helping.
