does anyone know which are the best short shifters?..i want some info before i get one..aren't B&M supposed to be really good??

B&M

It rocks. Its $$ compared to the others but I think its worth it. I love mine and would never switch to anything else.

I've got a pilot, that I further shortened.

I'm not too rich right now so went w/ the cheaper one, hasn't let me down yet. Oh, except for the part where the isolator bushing freezes in the winter and it sort of rotates...but who cares?

I got an OBX second gen shifter... It's pretty good, didn't break on me... It's not B&M quality, but for less than 100$, it's a great deal.

its know:

B&M vibrates at higher RPM
OBX is likely to break and is a copy of the C's
C's is expensive but excellent quality

i am getting a C's in jan (after HK trip). I dont like B&M for vibration issues, if they correct that problem somehow, i would go B&M. feels solid, very mechanical shifting. good stuff

OBX feels very good too, much better then stock.

Just depends on your budget and if can handle the noise/breaking-risk.

B&M, got mine from GB enjuku. bitch to install kinda, but worth it IMO. the vibration issuse isnt a biggy with me. its not some kind of Loud weird vibration..wait it is haha. you can hear it going into high rpms. sounds like beez sorta. high pitch. its short side to side and up and down. got many compliments on how short it was too. but now that im use to the distance, doesnt feel short no more.

I got the OBX used for cheap.. but it of course started rotating so I cut the whole dampening system out of it and welded it back together. Now it looks like this and feels very direct.

It's a good shifter for as cheap as it is.

its a SOLID shifter, not a SHORT shifter
means the shifts between gears will be more direct and precise. no more slop. does not shorten throws as a short shifter would

actually, it does shorten the throw a little bit, but not as much as a short shifter. but it's shorter than stock (according to monkey magic which is a solid shifter like nismo)

But B&M is great, but imo, a litle too notchy. the install isn't too bad either if you've got a dremmel (sp?).

I'm currently using a 2nd gen OBX. had it for 8 months now.. no spinning or seperation issues. Works great for what it is. Makes a TON of noise above 4500-5000 rpm. I think it's because they made it a lot more solid and got rid of the bushing that used to break. Do not worry about the OBX breaking. It won't. they have fixed the issue.

You know I always hear everyone say they want the C's cause it's sweet.. I don't see how it would be that much different than the 2nd gen OBX. The obx is just a C's copy. I bet your still gonna get a ton of noise. Maybe I just need to hear a review from someone who actually owns one.. :P

Exactly!! It's noisy as hell... But it doesn't seem as noisy in the SR tranny...

Hmm.. what would make these things noisy?? My cut down one is quiet all the way to .. well when the little SOHC starts choking which is like 5k

Is it just some sort of resonance? Did they switch do a different bushing at the transmission end? I didn't know OBX went solid with the new shifters, I bet they shift nice.

They solid shifters are noisy because, unlike a FWD car, the shifter is actually connected directly to the shift fork/lever. You are hearing the gears meshing together, and the metal parts thrashing around. With the stock one, and the OBX/Pilot/C's, there is an insulator between the pieces to isolate this sound. The B&M transmits everything. I like it. Tells me what's going on in my tranny. For instance, when the tranny oil is cold, it's louder, reminding me to take it easy for a while. Then, as it gets warmed up, the noise quiets down...that means it's ready to rock! But you may not like that....

I understand that.. but my OBX is now one solid piece (pictures are above) and I hear very little noise compared to when it was dampened. Maybe the bushing they used on the end of the shifter is different and keeps the noise down. I don't know..

Good point. Maybe the shift knob you're using is internally insulated? I dunno. Also, the OBX still uses a plastic bushing for the shifter pivot thingie. Maybe that's part of it. The B&M is ALL METAL...I think that's why it's really zingy.

It has to be that bushing at the pivot. I was wondering what a solid one would do and now I know. It seems it does a great job of dampening since I have a solid alum shift knob and at no time is the vibration too much and it doesn't make any noise. I'd like to give a B&M a try to see how much difference that metal bushing makes though.

What I don't like about mine is that it feels really sloppy. I actually liked the stock shifter better. I am just going to hold out and get the B&M later but just suck up the OBX for now then sell it later

But I will say the throws are shorter they just don't feel precise. When I first but it in it was very tight and felt great then after it broke in it feels like crap
